Chapter Four: First Week

Skyler pulls her backpack on as she walked through the London streets. She tugs her jacket tighter around her as the February wind bites at her exposed skin. She finds the cafe Victoria told her about. She smiles at its look. It's small and cozy. The look reminds her of the cafe in her hometown of Manchester. She walks in and unties her jacket.

"Hey. What are you doing here?" Brooklyn asks looking at Skyler from behind the counter.

"I could ask you the same thing, Brooklyn," Skyler smiles.

"I work here. Mum and Dad wanted me to get a job so I could have pocket money," Brooklyn says, "Now what are you doing here?"

"It got pretty noisy at your house. Victoria thought it'd be quieter here, so I could study."

"Well Mum's not wrong. Can I interest you in a coffee or something to eat?"

"Sure thank you. Can I please have a chocolate croissant and a vanilla chai latte?" Skyler smiles.

"You got it," he smiles back.

"Thanks, Brooklyn," Skyler walks to a small table.

The blond shrugs her red french coat off and hangs it on the back of her chair. She tosses her backpack down on the ground and pulls out her textbook, notebook, and a pen. She pulls out her Beats and plugs them in. She goes to the playlist Zach made and started listening, keeping one headphone off.

Skyler looks at her screen saver and smiles at it. She, Caleb, Olivia, Jessica, and Zach all looks so happy. The young Brit misses them and Manchester terribly. She's growing more accustomed with London, but Manchester is home. She likes her new school and is enjoying playing with Arsenal.

"Here is your chocolate croissant and vanilla chai latte," Brooklyn sets the food and drink down.

"Thank you. Would you care to join me?"

"I could take a minute to sit with you," Brooklyn smiles at Skyler. She had to bite her cheek and remind her not to swoon.

Skyler has suddenly found herself in an interesting situation. She has been best friends with Zach for five years. As they have gotten older, she found herself falling for him. Falling for her best friend wasn't part of her plan. Skyler never wanted to be in that situation. She watched her eldest cousin struggle with that, and Skyler vowed that would never be her. She kept her relationship with him strictly platonic. She didn't even know he felt that way. Not that she would considering she kept her feelings at bay. She can't believe that Zach would choose the moment before she leaves to tell her he felt like that. Skyler is a smart girl, so she knows Zach purposely did that. He wanted her to constantly think of him. It's working. When she's not occupied with football, school, or getting more comfortable with the Beckhams, Skyler is thinking about Zach. Who could've seen that she and her best guy friend would fall for each other.

Then, there's Brooklyn. Oh Brooklyn Beckham. The boy who started off so indifferent with her. He's suddenly warmed up to her. He started talking to her. Skyler could tell that he wasn't thrilled at the idea of her coming and living with them. She saw that on the ride from Cambridge to London last weekend. He slowly warmed up to her throughout the week. She can now consider him a friend. He's obviously very attractive. The entirety of the Beckham family is attractive. She knows that girls all over the world would kill to be in her position. Who wouldn't want to live with the Beckhams? She doesn't know what to think. She feels guilty for thinking about dating him when he's in a relationship with Chloe. Skyler can't help it. Once he started warming up to her, she felt an instant connection to him.

As Skyler sits there talking to Brooklyn, she feels good. She hopes that he will be a good friend for years to come. They're in the same academy, yet his future at Arsenal is unclear. It doesn't look like they will sign him. Skyler still has the rest of the season to impress them. Who knows though. Football is fickle and the future is never set in stone. Not even big stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan, or Leo Messi are safe from transfer gossip.
