chapter point five; vacancy

i accidentally published this, whoops.

i opened my eyes but shut them immediately, wincing at the direct sunlight shining in my eyes. i squinted and rolled over, expecting to see zayn. he wasn't there, though. i climbed out of bed and shuffled down the hallway to the kitchen.

"hi, mommy!" i spoke groggily to my mother cooking what smelled like bacon.

"hello! can you go get zayn for breakfast? it's almost done." she asked without losing focus on her meal preparation.

"he wasn't in my room when i woke up, i thought you knew where he was." i said, my half asleep mind puzzled.

"he's here somewhere, so can you please go look for him? maybe's he's playing hide and go seek." mommy responded.

"okay!" and that's what i did. i looked to the best of my abilities, but could not find him. while checking my room again, i noticed a small note on my dresser.

"im going home. i cant sleep at other peples houses. i will see u tomoro"

so he just went home. sounds fair. i walked out into the kitchen and told mommy about the note. she looked at it worriedly and rushed to the phone. i don't know why she looked so scared, though. he just went home.

"hi, it's mrs. payne. i was wondering if zayn was at the house by any chance?"
...
"oh, he is? that's wonderful! it seems he snuck out while we were all asleep. how is he? it was fairly cold last night."
...
"that's great! well, thank goodness he made it safely. bye now!"

she put down the phone and sighed.

"zayn is alright, he's at home."
