Promises unkept

When brynn woke the next morning, the bed next to her was now empty she almost felt a pang in her chest before she remembered the way fezco held her last night and then she just softly smiled to herself looking up at the ceiling.
When she eventually decided to get up and make her way through the house she found ashtray sitting at the round table near the kitchen, but no sign of fez.
"Morning lunchtray"
"I think you mean afternoon bird, it's nearly two" the young boy spared her a short glance before looking back down at the paper in front of him with a screwed up face causing brynn to furrow her eyebrows.
"Where's fez? Yo and why the fuck are you doing paper work?" She asked with a slight chuckle
"Fez headed to the store, and it's not paper work stupid, it's homework"
"You know I always forget you like have school aswell. What is it?" She asked him cocking an eyebrow
"Math, and it's fucking impossible" brynn just giggles making her way over to sit next to him at the table

Now a lot of people don't really realise that brynn summers is a fucking genius. Like for real, I'm talking AP math AP bio AP chem AP physics AP English. I don't know I might be exaggerating but the point is. She's fucking smart ok

"Ok show me" and at first ash just laughed until he saw her face was dead serious
"Shit birdie what are you gonna do?" He asked still laughing
"I don't know I might be able to help, just show me, stop being a dick" and so ash turned the paper to her pointing to question c. She looked at it for a couple seconds before sitting back in the chair and stating
"4cm" Ashtray just scoffed in amusement, and brynn just raised her eyebrow in reply
"You looked at it for like three seconds, ain't no way you know the answer, I thought you were gonna try help me?" now what neither of them noticed was fez walking in the front door and as he went to announce him self brynn spoke up
"No I'm right, come on it's easy it's just Pythagoras"
"It's who?"
"Dude come on" she grabbed the pen out of his hand and started showing him the working out while fez watched from behind them with a soft smile coming across his face, there was something so relaxing to him about watching to two of them interact with each other and this is something he always wished ash had, their parents aren't in the picture and their grandma couldn't help ash either and fez knew he'd be no help to ash, not with things like homework anyway, And as smart as ash was he was still a kid and fezco couldn't help but wish that his math homework was the biggest thing ash would have to worry about that day.
"Ok,it's a right angle triangle right with a base length of 3cm, the the hypotenuse is-"
"The what?"
"The hypotenuse. This side, here, that's what it's called." She pointed to the diagram and fez and ash both furrowed her eyebrows I'm confusion though neither of them had noticed the older boy yet
"Ok so it's 5cm and it's asking you to work out what this side is. So you do 5cm squared and take away 3cm squared, right? You with me?" She looked up and the young boy, his face stoic and he just nodded not taking his eyes if the paper
"So 25 minus 9 ok. Which is...?" and as ash made no move to reply she did for him still writing the working as she went
"It's 16. Then you just square root it and bingo. That's it" fez had walking closer to them, peering over that pairs shoulders his eyebrows still pulled together
"Righttt so it's 4"
"Cm. Don't forget cm, you loose marks"
"That's so much easier that how miss jones explained it yesterday" And brynn just smiled leaning back in her chair and now fez decided to announce him slelf
"Shit you mad smart ma" and brynn and ashtray both spun around in there chairs with there eyes wide
"Shit fez we didn't even hear you come in"she breathed out as she crossed the room over to him and fez just laughed
"Nah yous was to busy doing science shit" and she girl just laughed dragging fez in the direction of his room but before she got out of ear shot ashtray shouted to her
"Hey thanks for your help birdie" she just smiled shooting him a wink before he turned back around to finish the rest of the work sheet.

Maddie pick brynn up the next day for school from her house. The thing is when brynn got in the car she had a split lip and a bruising cut across her cheekbone. She looked like shit and when brynn cought maddie starting across at her with sad eyes she almost got up and left. They had a kind of understanding with each other that they just didn't ask, maddie knew what had happened just the same as brynn always knew when it was nate but they never spoke on it, they were just there for each other and that was enough for them. Brynn rolled her eyes at maddie's pitiful expression and turned the radio up as maddie put the windows down.
When they pulled up to school and maddie cut the engine they both just sat there for a second looking at there sorry excuse for an education system. They looked over to each other and sighed before getting out the car simultaneously and walking into school like the bad bitches they were.
