There's a picture of Phoenix on the side.

Phoenix's POV:

"Dad, why the fuck do you always do this?" I heard Adam, my brother shout from down the hall, causing me to jump in place and look down the hall. Before walking out to help stop the commotion I looked back to my beautiful sister, Carrie.

"I'll be right back ,okay? Just cover you're ears." I nodded at her and gave her a weak smile.

She did as I said and I walked down the long hall. I could barley hear the out of placed floorboards squeak below my feet -like they always do- over the yelling. Poor Carrie was only eight. To think that she had to go through this every day is just awful.

"Watch you're mouth you little bitch!" George, my father shouted back.

The first thing I saw when I entered the small living room was George swing a fist at Adam. I covered my hand over my mouth as I watched my brother duck and have the China cabinet shatter behind him. George cussed and pulled back his now bloody knuckle.

I glanced behind George to see a lady who looked to be about 20 standing behind him in shock. She was wearing a tight, neon pink crop top and black booty shorts. My dad takes girls like this home all the time when my mom's out. He thinks that my mother doesn't know but she does, she's just too scared to say anything.

"George stop!" I shouted and ran I front of Adam to protect him. He just pushed me to the side, afraid that I would get hurt.

"Don't call me that, you little slut! I'm you're father! Don't call me by my first name!" This time his fist was aimed for me. Adam tried to stop him but was too slow and I was too distracted on what he had just called me to move.

Slut, slut, SLUT! That word pushes my buttons and he knew it. How dare he call me that! Oh who am I kidding? I am a slut  and I know it!

I felt his hard fist colloid just above my jaw. I tried to keep my tears from falling. Adam ran over to me and asked if I was okay. I couldn't answer him with out letting out a sob. I couldn't even look at him. I just wanted to get out of this place.

"We're taking Carrie to the park." Adam said, as if reading my thoughts. "Go get Carrie, Phoenix"

I looked up at Adam and then to George who seemed to be sucking the face of the girl who was standing behind him. I glared and turned to go back to my room and get Carrie.

I walked in to see that she still had her hands over her ears. I knelt down in front of her and removed her hands from the sides of her head.

"Come on," I told her in a soft tone of voice. "We're going to the park."

Her face instantly lit up. "Is daddy coming?" She has no idea what a monster her father is. Adam and I make sure she never sees what happens behind those walls.

"No, but Adam and I are." Her smile faded.

I heard a muffled scream come from the living room. Carrie and I both looked out into the hall.

"What happened?" She tilted her head to the side, waiting for an answer.

"Uhh, Adam probably just bumped his toe on something." I lied.

"Okay. Can we go now?"

"Yep!"I threw her over my shoulder, causing her to giggle.

I walked out to see that George had gone into another room with that chick. Thank God. Adam was waiting for us by the door, our fall jackets in his hands.

I put Carrie down and handed her, her jacket. She put hers on along with her velcro shoes. I took my sweater and put on too, along with my fake, black converse that I bought at the thrift shop. We buy all of our stuff at the thrift shop.

"Are you ready?" I asked Carrie.

She smiled and nodded her head before taking mine and Adams hands.

Once we arrived at the park Carrie ran to play on the climbers leaving Adam and I to sit on the bench.

The weather was miserable outside, well miserable to most people. It was foggy out and the air was damp. It's my favourite kind of weather.

"So what happened to you?" I asked Adam.

"What do u mean?"

"Stop playing stupid." I scolded him.

He took off his sweater and rolled up his sleeve, revealing an armful of scars. Most of them were caused by my mother and father. There were burn marks and minor stab wounds. It was similar to mine. There was only one mark that looked fresh.

"What did he do?" I asked, concerned.

"He burned me with his cigarette." The way he said it was what really hurt me. He said it like it was something he was used to, which he was but still. He put his sweater back on before continuing. "He said that I was a son of a bitch."

"That doesn't even make sense about why he would burn you."

"Well yea, but then I said 'yes I am'" I couldn't help but laugh.

There was a comfortable silence as we stood and watched Carrie run from the climbers to the swings. It was cute how she could still hardly get herself going on the swings even though she was eight. I love how she tried anyway. She got bored and went back to the climbers.

I felt in my pockets for a cigarette, no luck. "Do u have any weed on you?"

"Uhh." He pulled a joint out of his pocket along with a lighter. "Yep. Just make sure Carrie doesn't see." I nodded and placed the weed between my lips.

"Can you give me a light?" After a few tries the lighter made a flame and lit the joint. "Thanks. I can buy you a new one the next time I'm at the store?" I offered.

"Nah that's ok. I'll just ask Jace for another one tomorrow."

Hearing Jace's name made my heart flutter. He was my best friend, well besides Adam I mean. We are the three musketeers, although Jace calls Larry, Curly, And Moe. I'm Moe. I've had a crush on Jase for a little less than a year now.

"You know, I don't want my sixteen year old sister doing drugs." He said before shoving his hands into his pocket.

"Yea, well I don't want my seventeen year old brother doing drugs."

"Wh-but I'm nineteen..." He sturrered.

"But you're still in grade twelve so technically you're seventeen." I tried to contain my laughter.

"What? No!" He let out a small chuckle.

"It's facts."

After a short moment of silence I heard someone laughing in the woods behind us and turned around to see if I knew who it was. Just to my luck, there stood Meghan Smone with an evil smirk on her face.

Meghan has bullied me for three years, since I was 13. It started out with rumours, then cyber bullying. Now she verbally bully's me. And the worst part is that she thinks I fuck my brother. How messed up does she think I am? Seriously that's just gross! Plus, I'm not exactly Adam's type but what she doesn't know won't hurt her.

"Well look what we have here! The incest kids!" I rolled my eyes and turned back to watch Carrie dangle from the monkey bars. I hoped Meghan would just leave.

"So what's up loser?" I didn't even notice her walk up beside me.

"Oh come on? The silent treatment?" I took another draw of the weed and continued to act like she wasn't there.

"My sister is here." I mumbled.

"Oh yea. Hey sweety!" She smiled and waved to Claire who waved back and continued to play. Luckily I hid the joint before she could see.

"Don't talk to her." I didn't take my eyes off of the ground.

"Oh shut up you slut." My head shot up at her last word.

I pulled my elbow back, getting ready to screw up that perfect face of her's. Right before I thruster my fist forward Adam grabbed it and held me back. He knows how much that word means to me.

"You need to go." He told her sternly.

"Awa, sticking up for you're girlfriend now, are we?"

"Fuck off!" I nearly screamed.

"Nope. I don't have to do anythi-" I cut her off.

"You better get the fuck out of my face before I turn yours black and blue." I growled at her and spit in her face.

"What are you a dog?" She hissed. I would have been on top of her by now if Adam hadn't been holding my arms behind my back.

"You need to go!" Adam shouted causing her to jump back slightly.

"You don't have to tell me twice." She said before walking away.

"What the hell?" Adam laughed.

"What?"

"Why did she say we didn't have to tell her twice? We told her at least three times." I chuckled at his remark.

"You really need to learn how to stand up to yourself." He told me as I dropped the joint to the ground and put it out.

"What do you mean? I was going to sand up for myself until You grabbed a hold of my arms!" I shot a cold glare at him.

"I mean verbally and without swearing."

"Well I don't know how to do that." I laughed softly but stopped when Adam grabbed my shoulders, turned my head and placed a hand softly on my cheek. I winced at his touch and removed his hand.

I knew there was a bruise from when George had punched me. I rolled my eyes and went back to facing Carrie.

"Are you okay?" He sounded nervous.

"Yea, nothing a little concealer can't fix. Besides its not the first time."

"I know it's not the first time but you're gonna need more than a little concealer." He seemed shocked.

"How bad is it?" I covered my hand over where the bruise would be.

"Well let's just say that you're hand isn't covering it all." He lifted my hood over my head and tried to hide it. "It's dark purple and probably the worse you've had so far."

I pushed my blue, dyed hair out towards the front of my head as an attempt to hide it better. "Great now I don't want to go back to that place and have him make fun of me." I mumbled and he wrapped his arm over my shoulder.

"I can call Jace and see is we can stay with him?" I forced a smile and nodded at him as he headed over to the pay phone leaving me by the bench.

I heard thunder and looked up. The sky had gotten a lot darker while we've been out. I decided to go get Carrie and take her over to the phone booth. I waited for Adam to finish his call so I could tell that it was going to rain.

He hung up and smiled at me. "He said yea."

"I could have told you that, he always says yes. I don't know why you even bother to call."

"Because it would be rude not to."

"Okay yea whatever." I rolled my eyes again , something I seem to do a lot. "Let's get there before it rains."
