"Get up lumber laborers. Lucky Smells has no time for dawdling," the foreman yells over the PA, waking everyone up. "Klaus Baude-liar, would you like to get out of bed this instant?"
"Yes, sir," Klaus sits up quickly, with a smile across his lips.
"Would you like to bring your baby sister?" the foreman continues.
Klaus grabs Sunny without a thought and marches straight into the mill.
"Klaus?" Y/N attempts to get the boys attention, but is unsuccessful.
Violet and Y/N rush to put their shoes on and follow him.
"Lucky boy," the foreman says as Klaus enters. "It's wood chipper day. Would you like to make some mulch?"
Without a word, Klaus goes to the big machine, flipping it on. He grabs wood and throws it in without a care. All while holding a scared Sunny. She babbles, trying to get someone's attention.
"What are you doing?" Y/N asks, coming up beside Klaus with Violet as well.
"You're frightening Sunny, and you're frightening us as well," Violet takes Sunny away from her brother.
Klaus ignores them, continuing to throw the wood into the chipper. He moves almost as if he is a robot.
"Stop it," Y/N grabs a piece of wood out of Klaus's hand. "We can leave."
"Lucky Smells is our life. Lucky Smells is our home," Klaus finally speaks.
"No it's not," Violet replies, upset. "Klaus are you still in there?"
"If you are, I want you to know that we miss you an inordinate amount," Y/N sighs.
Klaus shakes his head, looking around. He turns off the loud machine.
"Inordinate? What the heck does that mean?" Phil laughs.
"It can mean many things. Immoderate, irregular. But in this case, I think it means you missed me a lot..." Klaus looks at Y/N smiling.
"Klaus! You're back," Y/N laughs slightly.
"Where was I?" he laughs back. "And why am I not wearing shoes?"
Before Y/N or Violet can explain anything, the foreman interrupts them, "Hey Baudelaires, you lumber brats, go to the very fancy doors. You have visitors."
The four children look at each other, hope filling in their eyes. They go to the big front doors, greeted by Charles.
"Ah children, I know your time here hasn't been very peachy, but your luck is about to change. I've brought you a peach," he smiles proudly, holding the fruit out.
"But, who is here to visit us?" Klaus asks as Violet takes the peach.
"Oh, I don't know. But they can't come inside, because then they would be trespassing. And they would then be put to work," Charles shrugs. "But I can tell you that they are just on the other side of that very fancy door," he points.
The children slowly approach the very fancy door, curious and anxious as to who is on the other side. The handle begins to move. Y/N gently grabs Klaus's hand, nervous.
"My, my, my. Aren't you a lucky boy," a very strange looking woman places Klaus's fixed glasses onto the boy's face.
"Yes, sir," Klaus drops Y/N's hand.
The woman smirks, looking to her companion, Dr. Orwell.
"Thank you, I can see," Klaus says politely.
"Well of course you can. I'm an excellent optometrist," Dr. Orwell laughs to herself.
