I sat on the school's rooftop, watching as police and heroes cordoned off the area, escorting students away. I opted to stay, squatting on the ledge and watching the world drift by as I had countless times before. As the sun began to set, my phone rang.
The caller ID made my stomach churn. I almost answered but then stopped myself, letting it ring. Not today. I wasn't in the mood to deal with him.
"Shouldn't you take that?" I turned my head to find All Might looking down at me with concern. "I didn't mean to intrude if you'd prefer to be alone."
I slumped back, shaking my head. "Too late for that now, isn't it? Normally, I'd tell you to piss off, but I guess I should thank you for saving my life back there. That clown was trouble, but who knows how much more chaos he could have caused?"
"You did the best you could in the heat of the moment. No one can blame you."
I glanced at the destruction and smirked. "Are you kidding? I nearly wrecked half the school trying to stop one villain who threw playing cards. I've been training to control my powers, but it looks like I still have a long way to go."
All Might sat beside me, nodding. "We all do. I wasn't perfect when I started, either. My power was chaotic, and I often caused more problems than I had solved. Even now, I worry I might level a building in the heat of the moment. No one gets it perfect all the time. You should be proud of what you accomplished."
"You're the first teacher to congratulate me on destroying the school," I chuckled, watching parents reunite with their sobbing children. "It hit me today. They're just kids, and so am I. The idea of being a hero seems so glamorous, like something out of a comic book. No one prepares you for how messy and terrifying it can be."
"It isn't glamorous. But don't be too hard on yourself. Everyone got out alive. That's more than many pros can say on their first assignment. We'll shoulder the blame for failing you and the others. We let a villain into a place meant for learning and training. For that, I apologize."
"What can you do?" I shrugged, standing up. "I'm heading home. And just so you know, I don't need you walking me back. I'm going with Bakugo and the others. Kaminari wants to buy me sushi to save his life... I told him no, but he insisted."
All Might glanced back at me with a nod. "Alright then." As he turned to leave, he stopped me in my tracks. "I can tolerate you lying to the teachers and me. But please, don't do that to your friends. To the students."
I stared ahead, my eye twitching. I covered my eyepatch and didn't turn around. "What?"
"We know who you are, Y/N. Haven't you picked a hero's name yet? Or were you planning to stick with 'Red Butcher'?"
My heart raced, and sweat trickled down my forehead. I struggled to find words. "Impossible... How did you...?"
"I recognized you the moment I saw you. How could I forget my greatest failure?"
I turned around, ready for All Might to finish what he started. "You knew all this time?! What about the teachers?"
"Only Nezu knows. We kept it from the others. Your different quirk momentarily threw me off. But it was the look in your eye when I went all out for that brief moment that confirmed it."
I started laughing uncontrollably, my nerves getting the better of me. "So what now? Are you going to finish me off? No one's watching. No one would know. Was this all just a setup to catch me off guard so you could kill me?"
All Might stood up with a profoundly saddened look. "No. I have no intention of hurting you again, Y/N."
"Liar. If that were true, you would have seen it on that day. Saw me begging for your help."
