Chapter 32.

We slept at the Wreck that night, somewhere no one would come looking for us, I say slept but I sat awake the whole night.

I was sitting outside leaning against the dock when JJ came out and put his arms around my stomach and kissed me on the head.

"Did you get any sleep?" He asked

"Not even a blink" I said honestly "He's pinched for sure" I said looking up at JJ

"They wouldn't still be patrolling if they caught him" Pope said walking up to us

"Let's hope" JJ said

"You know, we were in that car. They're probably looking for us too" Kie said waking up

"Well if we are going to be outlaws, we might as well help John B" Pope said patting my shoulder and giving me a smile

"So, find him before they do?" JJ asked as Pope picked up JJ's bag

"Pope, where are you going?" I asked

"I'm going to get gas for the boat" He said walking outside

"Hey, be careful" Kie said but Pope ignored her

"Meet me at the dock at three. Don't be late" Pope said looking back at JJ and I.

Kie followed Pope out and was trying to talk to him while he revved the bike at her ignoring her, JJ and I watched from the railing as Pope sped away.

"Who is that?" JJ asked looking up at the helicopter above our heads

"That better not be for my brother" I said worried.

Kie, JJ and I went back inside and started packing up some food for John B to take with him. Kie was telling us what happened last night between her and Pope.

"Are you sure he wasn't just being weird Pope?" JJ asked

"He was pretty high Kie" I said to her

"It wasn't really the kind of thing that needed interpretation" Kie said, brushing us off.

"Is this going to be enough food?" I asked JJ

"I mean for a couple of weeks, that's all they need" He said grabbing the keys of the bench and getting ready to leave

"Look, I think I actually hurt his feelings" Kie said, she didn't mean to hurt Pope.

"Don't beat yourself up too much. He's completely changed his feels. The past 24 hours have been like Jekyll and Hyde" JJ said as we walked out to Kie's car.

"I hate to admit it, but I miss the old Pope. At least I knew what to expect from him" Kie said with her back to us and coming face to face with her mum.

"Where have you been?" She asked Kie

"I'm fine, I slept here" Kie said as JJ and I pulled a face at each other and loaded the groceries into the boot

"Well, we were up half the night, scared to death looking for you. Were you even gonna tell us?" Kie's mum yelled at her daughter "What the hell are you three up to?"

"I'm sorry Miss Anna, we just got to go" JJ said making Kie's mum yell at her more

"Have you heard what's going on? Savannah, your brother is wanted. These cops are armed, you are going to get shot" Miss Anna yelled at Kie and I

"He's innocent and he needs us, i'm sorry but Kie we really need to go" I said before getting in the car with JJ

"Mom, John B needs us! I understand, I'll be careful" Kie said shutting her door making her mum hit the window begging for her to stop.

We drove in silence to JJ's house so that he could get the Phantom key's. We pulled up and I noticed the broken fly screen from the fight only a few days ago.

"Home sweet home" JJ said taking off his hat and messing up his hair

"Do you want me to come" I asked, knowing he didn't want to be here

"Nah, this will only take a second" JJ said getting out of the car before looking back at us and smiling

"I should go in and make sure he's okay" I said to Kie after a minute

"Sav, he is okay. He can do this" She said, looking at me and smiling. I wouldn't calm down until JJ was back in this car without any injuries.

After what felt like an hour JJ came out of the house slamming the door behind him making me look at Kie who gave me a nervous smile. As JJ got closer I realised that he had been crying.

"How did it go?" Kie asked but he just took some deep breaths and held up the keys with his shaky hand.

"Are you okay?" I asked him while holding his hand

"I will be" He said back with a small smile.

There was a nervous silence in the car as we drove through the Outer Banks, JJ was swinging the Phantom keys around his hand.

"This is going to work right?" I asked them both

"It'll be fine. It'll be fine with the Phantom" JJ said in my direction "She'll get out quick"

Just as I was about to say something else, cop cars came flying past us making JJ and I duck as Kie drove.

"They're still looking. It's a good sign" She said but all I could think about was John B.

I kept looking out the window wondering where John B was and if he was safe, I looked out and had to do a double take as I saw Rafe and Barry on the side of the road. Sarah said that Rafe had been buying cocaine from Barry so I didn't think anything of it.
