black rain

i stood in the centre of the freeway
my arms wide and my teeth melting black
my body absorbed each car, each story
untold secrets secreted through my veins
these words rose from the depths of my organs to light my brown brown skin

i look at my arms and wail
it's raining in the middle of summer
sticky warm water drowns my hair
cheap black hair dye spills across my shoulders and i don't look like myself anymore
