A/N: This was an idea from an instagram photo. I can't tell whether he is in the closet in the photo or if he is just being introduced to new people at night with Watari so I'll make another oneshot where he sees us or something like that.

Today was fairly warm in England. The kids in the orphanage were playing outside on the playground. Yelling and laughing. A random kid crying on the hot ground with a bruise on their knee. Most of the kids were having fun while you were in the kitchen grabbing some left over eggs you didn't finish this morning to give to a random black cat you found near Wammy's gate. Of course, pets were forbidden, but you couldn't help yourself. The cat is so small and cute. It looked so hungry like it needed you to feed her. So here you were, looking around to make sure none of the adults were around to watch you sneak food to your room. Where you're keeping that cat.

You wandered down the hall to find a boy with baggy clothes oddly crouching in front of the 1000 piece puzzle he is solving. You didn't mind him because you knew that he knew about the cat. And he knows that you know he knows. It sounds complicated but both you seem to interact with only a few looks. It was an unusual bond you had with him. But was simple between you two. You especially knew he wouldn't snitch. So, you mostly expected yourself to get caught with the cat on your own at some point.

You quietly quietly walked up the stairs which led to your room. As soon as you opened the door to your room, you heard some faint scratching sounds on the door, which came through one ear to the next. You opened the door to watch your cat immediately squish through the crack of your door and dash straight down the stairs with you standing with a small container with your eggs in it. You placed your container on top of your drawer and chased your cat down the stairs.

As L was solving his puzzles, a cat landed on each piece with it's small little paws and dashed straight through. L sighed and watched some of the puzzle pieces slide away from the rest. He turned to the sound of your feet running down the stairs with his eyebrows furrowed.

"Your cat ran straight through my puzzles!" The boy whisper yelled at you to avoid the adults from listening.

You ignored his attitude and looked for nearby places the cat must have went to.

"She went over there." You whispered to yourself as you looked down and carefully sped walked your way to one of the classrooms to avoid stepping on the boy's puzzle pieces.

While you snuck into a classroom, the cat came out of the kitchen and approached the annoyed boy. He looked at the cat creepily with his disheveled hair and deep gray eyes in a crouched position. He rolled his eyes at the cat and looked around the hall to see if his puzzle pieces were scattered around the room. He had no choice but to approach the cat. For some odd reason, he didn't like the cat. It was perhaps the thought of how much germs it might have. Or... The probability it might scratch him. He had no idea where that cat had been, no wonder they're forbidden.

He looks at the cat dead in the eyes with his unsettling gaze before he grabbed the puzzle piece. He left the cat alone to continue with his puzzles. He felt the cat approach him and sit by him to watch him do puzzles. Suddenly the boy no longer minded the cat being near him. The cat was quiet and seems well behaved... To him, at least. It made him wonder what you did to make the cat run from you.

Speaking of the devil, you came out of the classroom and saw the cat with the boy. You found it rather cute that the cat seemed oddly calmer around the boy since you struggled to keep the cat in your room.

"Oh my gosh." You whispered in shock.

"I'm just as surprised as you are." He stated with a blank face before he could pet the cat. "It's soft."

"Yea. I struggled to keep her from running away," you then suggest "I think she likes you."

The boy picked up the cat and carried it. He quickly observed the cats stomach and looked down.

"Does he have a name?"

"He?"

"You didn't check his private part to determine their sex." He said in a matter-of-factly tone.

"Oh." You thought for a moment. "Maybe I'll name it (c/n)."

"That's a good idea."

"Did he even have a name to begin with?"

"He sounded like a girl cat so I named him (c/n)."

You noticed a cringe expression on his face.

"I thought it was a great name if he was a girl." You playfully sassed.

"Yea, you thought." He smiled as he handed the cat to you. As soon as you grabbed the cat, the cat immediately jumped off of you and grabbed the boy's teddy bear and took off to the play yard.

"Well, he sure hates me."

"And this is why I don't like pets." He sighed and started rubbing his eyes. We both walked out of the orphanage to look for cat around the yard. You guys split up so that you could find the cat quicker. You didn't want to seem suspicious to Watari, so you walked through all the kids, wandered your eyes around the yard for that cat, and spoke to them all like a natural. The boy on the other hand, was wandering around the yard, making little to no verbal or playful contact at all and kept looking around for that cat that stole his stuffed animal.

Eventually, you found the boy looking into the tree branches that reached to your room. You approached the boy and looked towards where he looked at. (C/n). You began to climb up the tree before you were warned by the boy not to. Yet, you did anyways. It surprisingly didn't run on the other side of the Wammy's gate but it did run off the tree the moment you reached to it's branch level.

You groaned in annoyance. "WHY?!?"

The boy shrugged and slowly followed behind the cat to see where it was headed. It ran back inside the orphanage. He decided it was better to check in on you in case you couldn't climb back down. As he approached the tree you climbed on, he could see from a fair distance that you were climbing down. Yet, he approached you anyways.

"What're you doing? Go get that cat!" You whisper yelled at L.

"I'm sorry for making sure if you needed help getting back down." He said blankly as he turned around to walk back into the orphanage.

"I know how to climb trees, you know!"

The boy had never seen you climb a tree before. But there were times, you'd go missing at night or during classes, sometimes. He knows that you know he knows.

He walked back for the black cat even though he believed it'd be pointless since he probably left and wanted to be left alone. Or at least leave you and your room. Who knows how you've treated the poor cat. Maybe you hugged it so much it just wanted out. Whatever the reason, L just wants to confirm with the cat by approaching it. Via, it left dirt prints leading up to one of the rooms upstairs. He followed the trail of dirty paw prints up the stairs to find no cat. But an open room to which he assumed was your room.

It's YOUR room. And YOUR cat. Should he leave the cat be?

He walked in your room to find (c/n) on your messy bed. He observed the bedroom to find coloring sheets everywhere and crayons scattered in different locations and princess dresses on the floor and your bed. He judged a bit even though his room was a bit disorganized. Only his files being organized as well as his clothes. But he knew that this room was just a typical 10 year old.

He approached the cat and watched as it didn't try to avoid him. It stood in place and let the boy touch him. He carried him in his arms as you secretly watched from behind the door frame. You smiled at how gentle the boy is with the cat even though he complained about it a few minutes ago. The cat looked so fuzzy and comfortable being in the boy's arms.

"You know you can come out, right?" He softly said, while not looking away from (c/n). You gently approached him and the cat and noticed the cat had not resisted or tried to run away. You got close enough to the point you could pet the fuzzy cat.

"Awwww... He's so cute." You cooed as you and kept yourself from petting it as if you'll lose him.

"You were too wild for his liking." He said.

"I know that now, you know?"

"I know."

"You always do." You said. "What's your name? You're cool."

The boy tilted his head at your compliment "L. You're (y/n), I know."

"Like the letter?" You chuckled.

"Well- yes." He uttered out. "Like the letter."

Your moment together with the paused as you both turned your heads to see the one and only tall, old man standing in your doorway.

"Pets are not allowed, in case you two have forgotten." He said.

"What're we supposed to do?" You asked. "I didn't want (c/n) to starve. Look how cute he is."

L looked at you before adding, "she has kept the (c/n) in her room and has been feeding him as well. I assume you clean up after the cat?" You looked at L and nodded before looking back to Mr Wammy to confirm you've taken well care of the cat.

Mr Wammy thought for a moment. "I'll make an arrangement to find him new owners who will make sure he doesn't starve. For the meanwhile, don't make him a distraction."

"Oh, okay. Thank you, Mr Wammy!" You seemed too enthusiastic for someone who has to give up their pet. But you were happy you got to at least keep the cat for a while before someone else can take care of (c/n) just like you did.

"I hate to break your enthusiasm, but where's my teddy?"

"The one I gave you?"

He nodded.

"So you see, it's on the tree." You noticed his blank face before you stammered. "I-I'll get it down for you."

You climbed the tree and got down with the bear. Mr Wammy felt something suspicious about you already knowing how to climb trees when no one has seen you climb one or even practice to climb one but he brushed it off, with only L knowing where you'd go. You washed the teddy you gave L on the first day he came to the orphanage. In the past few days, you and L have been getting along and taking care of (c/n) together before his owners came for him. And now you've been hanging out with L and his complexed puzzles inside instead of hanging out with the kids outside for recess because you found him to be a lot more interesting than you thought he was. He could say that he accepts you to be in his comfort zone because he not only trusted you but he liked you a lot without realizing it.
