The stinging sensation engulfed my hands.
Why does Running warm water over cold hands always cause a burning sensation?"You're lucky you didn't get frostbite."
I shifted my gaze from my hands to the mirror in front of me to see the purple-haired stranger I had met moments before, leaning against the bathroom door frame. I quickly shut off the faucet, dried my hands with the towel nearby, and finally turned around to face him.
"I was fine..." I said, leaning against the counter.
He smirked, "Tell that to your blood-red cheeks."
I turned my head slightly around, catching a glimpse of my cold, red cheeks in my reflection. Embarrassed, I stood up abruptly and pushed past him to leave the tension-filled room. He followed close behind.
"No, thank you?"
Pushy.
"I said I was fine," I reached for the door handle of the cabin mentally preparing myself for the frigid air I was about to face again.
"And where do you think you're going?"
I jumped at the sound of the stranger's voice, not expecting it to be so close. I turned around, and there he was, only a foot away from my face. Gulp.
"Back to the lodge," I nervously said.
"In a blizzard?" He crossed his arms and raised a single brow.
"Nope, you're not. I can't let you go back out there it's way too dangerous and if something happens, that'll be on me."
"So, what are you suggesting?"
"Seems like you'll have to stay here until the storm eases up. It's either that or go back out in a Nebraskan Blizzard and possibly freeze to death on the way to your lodge."
Stay with a stranger? We don't know how long the storm will last; I could be here for hours.
My eyes kept scanning the room as I wracked my brain for what to say next. I gave in, nodding my head noticeably to signal I was staying.
"Great," he plopped on the couch and told me to sit wherever.
A few basic questions were thrown around and answered before silence fell.
I am stuck with a person who just saved me from a blizzard and brought me in so I wouldn't DIE. Although I'm sure I could have found my way back, that's kind of a heavy relationship to have already with a stranger.
"What brings you out here?" I say, finally thinking of another question.
"Summer vacation before college starts again. I'll be a sophomore."
"Same here."
He ended up turning on the TV and watching a movie. We hoped by the end, the storm would subside. As the credits rolled, I took initiative to let myself out. I hadn't heard any "storm noises" so I was probably good to go.
