"I did not take you as the possessive type Mr Park," Lake joked with a teasing wiggle of her brows. Min-Jun rolled his eyes pretending to act annoyed, but the small lift at the corner of his lips proved otherwise.
"I am not possessive," Min-Jun argued as the two stepped out of the vehicle. Min-Jun carried his sister's ice cream while Lake carried a bag of goodies that they had bought along the way.
"If you say so," Lake replied in a sing-song tone.
The two stepped into Min-Jun's home. Lake knew the cue and slipped off her shoes and replaced them with a pair of slippers.
"Lake!" Ara shouted with excitement as she noticed Lake at the entrance.
"Ara!" Lake rushed over to the young girl and embraced her.
Min-Jun's mom emerged from the kitchen. Her hair was tied back into a loose bun and although her eyes looked tired, she wore a bright smile.
"It is so nice to see you again," she said as she embraced Lake.
"And you will be seeing more of her," Min-Jun commented casually as he took a seat beside his sister. He wore a small smirk.
Margaret looked between the smiling pair trying to figure out what Min-Jun meant. Her lips broke into a wide smile as realization hit her.
"Oh, my gosh! Finally!" Margaret gushed as she hugged Lake once again. "Welcome to the family, Lake. Ah, I'm so happy."
"That means you're like my sister now?" Ara asked and Lake nodded with a smile.
"This calls for a celebration," Margaret said as she clasped her hands together with excitement. "How about we go out for some hot pot?"
"Yes, I want hot pot!" Ara wore a big smile as she extended her hands out. Her lollipop almost hitting Min-Jun in the face.
Min-Jun frowned. "Candy is bad for your Ara."
"Fine, you want it?" Ara extended the lollipop out toward Min-Jun's mouth. The raven-haired boy opened his mouth to take the lollipop, but Ara pulled back her hand and giggled. "Sike!"
"You little rascal!" Min-Jun picked up his sister and threw her up in the air before catching her. Ara giggled at the action.
Lake could not help but smile. Min-Jun was great with kids. One day he would make an amazing father. Her eyes widened as she stopped the thoughts. They only just started dating and the purple-haired girl was already thinking of the far future.
"Thank you for allowing him to smile again," Margaret whispered to Lake as she too smiled at her two children. She knew that the two had suffered a lot, especially Min-Jun. He held so much grudge in his heart for so long that it had not allowed him to move on, but now it all had changed.
"It was all him," Lake replied.
Margaret pulled Lake into a side-hug. "You played a big role, sweetie."
Lake leaned her head onto Margaret's. Little did the middle-aged woman know how much her son had helped Lake as well. He had brought happiness into her life as well.
Meeting Min-Jun was the best thing that could have happened to the teenage girl. Not only did she gained a boyfriend that was loyal and loved her for her, but she also gained a family. She could share these moments with them. Eating together or just enjoying one another's company. She did not have that with her own family and Owen's parents never approved of Lake, in fact they belittled her as often as they could.
Lake shook the bad memories out of her head and turned to her family. "Shall we go get that hot pot?"
"Yes!" Min-Jun and Ara shouted at the same time causing Lake and Margaret to giggle.
"Can I drive?" Min-Jun asked as he wrapped his arm around Lake's shoulder. His girlfriend tapped her chin.
"Hmm, only if you give me a kiss," Lake replied as she pointed to her chin. Min-Jun smiled and did as told.
Lake happily handed Min-Jun her car keys. Margaret strapped Ara into the back seat and Lake helped her get the wheelchair into the back. The happy family stepped into the 2022 Toyota Sequoia. The engine roared to life and Min-Jun maneuvered the car onto the road.
All four of them unaware of the figure staring at the from afar. The man let out a large puff of smoke and watched the retreating vehicle with an evil smirk.
