Chapter 14

"Are you ready?"

Ryujin nods at Lia as she pulls out her phone and rings Yeji.

"Hello? Is Ryujin here?"

Lia holds Ryujin's hand tightly and replies, "Yeah and we brought lunch." Yeji replies, "We'll come down to get you."

Yeji glances at Beomgyu who stayed indifferent to this all. What's going to happen now? Is she just going to reject me and everything will go back to the way it was? It can't though... not after you ruined it with your stupid feelings... what's going to happen now?

Yeonjun glances out the window and says, "We should hurry, it seems like the weather is getting worse."

BANG!!

Yeji jumps in shock as Yeonjun whispers, "Thunder... let's go before they get wet and cold. Beom—" He pauses seeing Beomgyu was already gone.

"RYUJIN! RYUJIN!"

Lia glances at Ryujin in utter fear. They were just waiting at the lobby of the apartment complex until they heard the thunder. Ryujin immediately crouched down onto her knees and covered her ears.

BANG!!!

Soobin says in a worried voice, "Ryujin, what happened? Is it the thunder?" Ryujin could only stutter as tears started forming in her eyes and her hands start to shake in fear. She slowly looks up speechless as the two stare at her not knowing what to do.

BANG!!!

Beomgyu finally made it down and ran to Ryujin. He quickly put her in a hug as he whispers, "Hey, it's okay. I'm here. Listen to me, Ryujin. I'm here. I'm fine. Hey! Answer me. Can you hear me?" Ryujin gasps for air as she whispers, "Y-yeah..."

Beomgyu smiles, "It's just thunder. It can't hurt you. We're all in here and safe. Just breathe in and out, okay? Copy me." He inhales and she does the same as he exhales while she continues to mimic him.

"Can you walk?"

Ryujin slowly nods her head as Beomgyu turns to the other two. He smiles, "You can head up." They were left alone as Beomgyu helped Ryujin stand up.

BANG!!!

Ryujin's knees grow weak as the thunder claps through the air. Beomgyu catches her and continues to help her stand. He carefully leads her into the elevator while she slowly fixes her breathing.

Ryujin had a terrible fear of thunder. It stemmed from the trauma of the tragedy of her parent's death. The day her parents passed, Ryujin was in the car with them. They were driving carefully on a stormy night where the rain and wind made it impossibly hard to drive. Unfortunately, this caused the accident that took her parents. The car flipped as the tires skid from the wet roads. Ryujin was the only one conscious after the several flips. And she couldn't do anything.

Ryujin was stuck in the same car her parents just passed in upside down. She couldn't do anything but listen to the rain slam the ground and the thunder roaring through the skies. It happened when she was young and it stuck with her to this very day. On rare occasions of thunderstorms, Beomgyu was always there to comfort her. They shared a room so he'd always see her reactions to them.

Beomgyu and Ryujin slowly rode the elevator as Ryujin whispers, "I didn't mean what I said back there..." he turns to her as she replies, "I was just flustered and your confession freaked me out. I-I... it's pretty funny because I ummm... I actually—"

Ryujin stops as the power shuts down and the lights in the elevator turn off. "Beomgyu?"

"I'm still here."

"Are we going to die?"

"Ryujin, don't freak out. It's just the lights. The elevator won't drop."

BANG!!

"BEOMGYU WHERE ARE YOU!?"

Beomgyu puts his arm and grabs a hold of hers. He pulls her closer until he's hugging her. He whispers, "I'm right here. Now, stop freaking out." Ryujin nods as he pats her head. As Beomgyu hugged her, Ryujin slowly pushed him away until his hands were on his sides. Beomgyu stays quiet until Ryujin pulls his hand away and interlocks her pinky with his. Ryujin says, "I like you, Beomgyu."

Beomgyu's eyes widen in the darkness as Ryujin whispers, "It's just... I didn't want to ruin our friendship. We were so close before all these feelings got in the way and I wanted us to be like that. In my mind, if we started to be open about our feelings then we would've... we would've grown apart. I didn't want that Beom. I didn't want to be awkward around you or Mina-unnie and Tae-oppa."

Beomgyu whispers, "So you pushed me away."

"I did."

"How long have you liked me?"

Ryujin whispers, "Since the day I woke up in the hospital... Tae-oppa told me everything that happened then Chan and Hyunjin approached me at school and... yeah... Since then."

Beomgyu replies, "We can start slow... I really like you Ryujin. I thought it was wrong at first but I've liked you since we first met." Ryujin whispers, "We'll start slow... When we get out of here, we can apologize and thank the rest. They've done a lot for us." Beomgyu nods his head and pulls her in for a hug. He whispers, "Thank you... thank you for coming here."

...

"Where have you two been?"

Mina crosses her hands staring at Beomgyu and Ryujin who walked in the middle of the night. Taehyung tried to look mad like Mina but in reality the two were freaking out before they got here.

Ryujin bows her head and whispers, "I'm sorry... We just had a fight. We made up, we're good now." Beomgyu nods his head as Mina says, "Is that all?" The two nod in silence as Mina uncrosses her arms, "Really? That's all you have to tell us?" Taehyung adds, "You just made up? Like that?" Beomgyu replies, "That's all."

The two head to their rooms as Mina turns to Taehyung, "We were wrong?" Taehyung replies, "Give it time. I'm sure something happened." She whispers, "Are we creeps? What if nothing really happened between them?" He replies, "Want to bet?" Mina frowns at him, "No, we can't do that. We can't bet on relationships." He replies, "It'll be harmless. Plus it'll be only between us. I bet that they are dating." Mina replies, "Fine, I bet they aren't. What are the wagers?"

Taehyung replies, "A blind date. If I win, I set you up in one and if you win you can set me up in one." Mina stays quiet then says, "Promise no one is weird?" Taehyung replies, "Promise." Mina nods and the two shake on it.

Meanwhile...

Beomgyu laid down on his bed staring at the ceiling while Ryujin did the same in her bed across his. Beomgyu ends up breaking a smile while looking up at the blank ceiling.

Ryujin whispers, "Hey, Beom... are you asleep?" Beomgyu stays quiet then chuckles, "Haha, no." Ryujin breaks into a laugh as she whispers, "Haha, we're not dreaming, right? We're actually dating?" He laughs along as he replies, "Yeah, I can't believe it."

Ryujin asks, "When are we going to tell Tae-Oppa and Mina-unnie?" Beomgyu replies, "We shouldn't, but we shouldn't hide it either. We won't deny it if they ask but we won't go out of our way to tell them." She nods and she smiles, "Hey, Beom?"

"Hmmm?"

"Sweet dreams."

Beomgyu can't help but cringe as he says, "Don't. Let's not do that."

"Why, honey? You don't like my baby names, darling? Prefer something erotic and oversexualized, daddy? Or you want something cute and innocent, my BeomBeom?"

Beomgyu laughs as he stands up and quickly slams his pillow on her face, "Maybe this will shut you up." Ryujin pulls her pillow and slams his face back as she smiles, "Not a fan of pet names?" Beomgyu blushes, "No, not at all!" She smirks, "Which one was it? The first one? I don't mind calling you the second." He slams her face really hard causing her to pause in disbelief as he smiles, "I'll think of one for you. Pig? Sloth? Forehead?"

Ryujin clicks her tongue and glares at him, "You better not sleep tonight, babe. I'll kill you once you close your eyes." Beomgyu smiles back, "You're weird, watching me in my sleep. I have such a weird girlfriend." Ryujin can't help but blush at the word. She argues back, "My boyfriend is just as stupid."

...

"Did you hear?"

Wonwoo turns his head as Nayeon chats, "The other departments are trying to get Mina to be interested in them instead of being a neurosurgeon." He says shocked, "Really?" She nods her head as she whispers, "The General Surgery doctors have been visiting here more often and I heard the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department is too." Wonwoo laughs, "Wow, what brought up all this popularity?"

Nayeon replies, "Mina's a genius. No offense, you're pretty smart too but she's also a workaholic. They all want her to be in their department. Dr. Lee asked to have lunch with her today. THE Dr. Lee Jieun! Don't get me started on that weirdo Dr. Park Jinyoung, no not the resident Park Jinyoung, the one who wore plastic pants to the Halloween party! He's been trying to bet her with a game of Rock Paper Scissors but he never wins, haha!"

Wonwoo chuckles, "At least she has options. What time is it, by the way?" Nayeon groans, "I don't know. I try my best not to look at the clock when I'm excited to leave. But finally! A week off!"

"What are you two still doing here?"

Wonwoo and Nayeon turn to see Joshua. He says, "Your shift ended like 30 minutes ago." The exchange confused glances as Joshua smiles saying, "Enjoy your break!" He then gets a phone call then immediately runs to the ER.

"Myoui Kaede, 16 year old tourist. Her parents said they were hiking and she fell off a small cliff. She said she can't feel her legs and her back is aching."

Joshua says, "We'll do a quick X-ray while I get Dr. Lee."

"Will my daughter be fine?"

Joshua replies, "We're not sure. We'll do a quick X-ray and give you a diagnosis of what's going to happen. Mr. Myoui, I assume?"

The man nods his head as Joshua stares at him and his wife, "Do you happen to know Myoui Mina?" The two exchange glances in silence then Mrs. Myoui breaks it, "Sorry, we don't." Joshua laughs, "Right, sorry. Must be a common surname in Japan." He runs off to prepare everything for Kaede as the parents glance at each other a bit scared. How does he know Mina?
