Rayyana was standing near our family listening to me yelling at my father

"Zaara?" I hummed at stared at my mother who sighed at me, she then plastered  a fake smile on her lips for the 100th time. 

"I said, you're father is coming to visit today." 

Oh 

right 

I nodded and put my roller away "mm I won't make it to dinner today unfortunately, I have a surprise shoot." My mother gently smiled "My beautiful Zaara, there is a reason why he is like the way he is." 

I glared up at her "And I suppose there is a reason for him liking Zoya more then any of us? Or a reason for him to hit you whenever he pleases?" Mother's face paled just like it always did but this time, I was unbothered. 

It was a constant battle between me and her. 

Ever since father packed his shit and left, my mother has been both thanking me and yelling at me. 

Yelling at me mainly because my uncles are sneering at me and telling me to mind my own business. 

But to be fair, if they were good brothers they should have been thanking me. 

I know for a fact that if I was stuck in a marriage like the one my parents have, my brothers would have my back no matter what. 

There was something different between mother and my uncles. 

Are they a reason behind Rayyana's hiding? 

"Zaara darling, I am talking to you." My mother had her fake smile on but her wrinkles were showing which meant one thing 

She was beyond pissed off

I sighed and rubbed my forehead "I already told you, I can not make it to dinner." Honestly why the hell was my father even invited? 

Was this a test to see that if in the 5 days he was gone he changed into something other then a monster? 

I wanted to snort

I felt a hand on my shoulder and stared at my mother through the mirror. 

We look the same by facial features, even our eye's are cut the same. 

But that's where the similarities end. 

She wants power

I want freedom

She wants money

I want freedom

She wants to be somebody

I want to be plain old Zaara Martin

"What's going on Zaara? You've been tense way before the whole issue with you're father." I bit my lip and forced myself to bite back the words "How long has Rayyana, my aunt, been living with us mother?"

But I haven't told anyone about my discovery and telling my mother was a horrible thing to do. 

But I am desperate. 

And...maybe if Rayyana comes back, our family will be normal. 

So, I took a deep breath and stared into my mother's eyes through the mirror because right now, I wanted to pretend she wasn't present in the room. 

"Why did Rayyana go into hiding?" 

.....

.....

Silence. 

And then I yelped when my mother put pressure on my shoulder. She stopped when I yelped and backed away like I had just asked her to jump off a cliff for me. 

I spun around in my chair and was surprised to see my mother staring at me with something in her eyes she had never shown to me or my siblings before. 

Anger. 

Pure

Raw

Anger

deep into her eyes, boring into me. 

If I wasn't sitting, I would be taking steps back until I had left my room. 

For the first time in my life

I was scared of my mother

"Why do you want to know dear?" My mother asked through clenched teeth. 

I gulped and continued "All I have heard is that she went into hiding, Never WHY. and she is my aunt, so shouldn't I know?" 

My mother let out a dark chuckle and smiled harder then I had ever seen her before. 

"Rayyana betrayed us. She chose someone else over her family, and for that she..." My mother stopped as if going out of a trance. 

She lightly smiled at me, looking normal again before walking up to my chair. 

It took everything in me not to flinch

She spun me around so that I was facing the mirror and slowly combed through my hair with a comb she had picked up. 

"Today, you have asked me something that is forbidden in this household," I yelped when she pulled hard on my hair. 

I think she pulled a few strands out.....

She leaned into my ear and whispered "Never ask me, or anyone else in this household ANYTHING about Rayyana, okay?" 

I nodded and felt a breath go inside my lungs when my mother backed away from me. 

She smiled at me and sent me a flying kiss "Good!" She walked to my door but before closing it she turned to me with a tight smile "You will be present at dinner, understood?" 

I nodded and watched as my mother closed my door with a hard thump. 

"Rayyana betrayed us. She chose someone else over her family, and for that she..." 

She what?

She went into Hiding? 

She cursed the family? 

Every time I want to learn more about Rayyana, I'm always left confused. 

What happened to Rayyana?

How did she betray us? 

Who did she choose over our family? 

And whoever this person is, what happened between the 2 that she went into hiding? 

I realized then, that if I needed answers. 

I need to go looking for them myself.
