Bellamy wasn't a fan of the plan.
For one it felt incredibly risky, and for two, all Arlean and Carter had to do was abandon them in the field of death surrounding the Grounders' camp and they'd be screwed.
And he wasn't putting it past Arlean to do that.
But it'd been two days since the pair had taken them into the woods and showed them the map. Since then they'd all been staying at the camp while Kiy and Jaha went over the details, and ironed out every bit of the plan.
Of course Bellamy had made sure he was in the group do the strike. There was no way he was staying behind and he honestly felt like he should keep an eye on Arlean.
Everyone else had seemed to have let their guard down around her. But she'd changed. She wasn't that same girl he'd bonded with before the people from the Ark had come down or the same girl he'd kissed.
She was somebody different.
Or maybe that's how she was all alone and you were just to blind to see it. Maybe she's always been a monster. Bellamy pushed those thoughts away as he finished strapping his gun to armored vest.
"Ready?" The Commander stood in front of them, equally ladened with weapons and carrying an automatic rifle in his hands. Bellamy answered with a curt nod and followed Kiy to the gates of the camp where the rest of the group was waiting.
Carter and Arlean were already there, dressed in black, but neither had a gun.
Bellamy didn't have time to contemplate this as they were off through the woods at a brisk pace, Arlean leading the way.
They ran in silence, the only sound was their heavy footfalls and the crunching of leaves. Finally Arlean held her hand up, and the group halted, fanning out in a line at the edge of the forest.
Beyond them stood a large, seemingly never ending field of yellowish, green tall grasses that swayed in the wind.
"Follow my footsteps exactly. One wrong move and its all over." Arlean hissed at the lot of them. Bellamy saw her swallow before taking one step out onto the grass.
Suddenly a distinct bird like call sounded from in front of them.
Arlean froze and Bellamy copied her actions, watching her intently.
"Something's not right," she muttered as she turned around to face Carter.
"That's their-"
"Battle call. They knew we were coming." Carter finished the sentence for her.
"Shit!" Arlean swore, looking at Kiy, her dark eyes finally showing worry. "Kiy, this isn't what it looks like. We didn't set you up-"
"Why the hell should I believe you?" Kiy said waving his gun around and Bellamy feared he would shoot them all. Then the trees rustled and a whistle filled the air. An arrow shot as true as a bullet from the branches and found its mark in one of the men bringing up the rear.
"Argh!" Kiy roared opening fire on the trees and shooting anything that moved.
"Kiy, stop!" Bellamy yelled.
"No, they'll kill us. They're going to kill us all!" Kiy was panicking, fear showing in the whites of his eyes. He pointed at Arlean and Carter. "And its all their fault!"
