"Oh my God." Maya huffed as she rolled her eyes in annoyance.

"What's wrong?" Serenity, Sincere's 18 year old daughter asked from across the table.

Maya put her index finger up, and mouthed 'hold on' before the person on the other end picked up.

"Hello? Hi, this is Marie Thompson I was calling to reserve the grand ball room for next weekend."

Serenity raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything. She kept her eyes on her computer in front of her.

"Yes! Yes. How much would they be exactly?" She began to fish around for a piece of paper and a pencil  so she could write all the information down.

"Ok. That sounds great. Tomorrow it is. Alright. Bye." Maya hung up the phone and placed it on the table.

"What was that about?"

"I'm trying to plan a surprise birthday celebration for your dad."

"Aw." Serenity said and waved Maya off.

"Aw? I thought you would've been more excited."

"Sometimes I don't even know who that man is. I forgot his birthday was coming up actually."

Maya was aware that Sincere had a rocky relationship with his children but forgetting his birthday was kind of extreme. At least to her.

"Well that's too bad because you're gonna help me decorate."

"What?" Serenity looked up from her computer and glared at Maya.

"No Marie. I have stuff to do and-"

"Do you know how happy he'll be to hear that you planned the whole thing?"

"But I didn't so...."

"Serenity. Come on now." Maya crossed her arms over her chest.

"No. Final answer."

"Final answer to what?" NaTasha asked, making her presence known as she walked into the dining room area.

"I figured that we'd plan a surprise birthday party for Mr. Cole. You only turn 50 once."

Tasha looked at her daughter. "So what you saying no to?"

"Ma, I don't want to plan or decorate nothing. I'm already busy with classes and my extracurricular activities. I don't have time to-"

"You know what Marie," Tasha turned her head and smiled at her nanny. "That sounds like a great idea. Serenity will be helping you and Semaj and I'll chip in too."

"Ma!" Serenity cried out, visibly irritated.

"I mean, if she doesn't want to that's fine."

"No no no. Why wouldn't she help with her own father's party?"

Serenity glared at her mother before closing her laptop shut and leaving the room without saying a word.

"She'll get over it."' Tasha chuckled and looked down at the paper with all the prices on it.

"1500? You got money like that?" She eyed Marie who didn't know exactly what to say.

"Well I-"

"You know what I've noticed?" Tasha kissed her teeth and looked Maya up and down.

"You've been doing a lot for my husband. Shit I don't even do."

"I'm just doing my job Mrs. Cole."

"Yeah. Doing your job my ass. You think I don't see the way you look at him. The way you greet him every time he comes in and you damn sure don't give the rest of us that kind of attention so what's up? Y'all fuckin or what?" Tasha stepped closer to her and analyzed her facial features closely.

NaTasha was insecure and having somebody as pretty as Maya in the house fucked with her mental. She couldn't help but accuse.

Maya took a step back and shook her head. "I don't know what you think is going on but it's not that. My job is to help y'all with anything that you need. That's all I've been doing." Maya replied slowly.

"Mhm." Tasha kissed her teeth once more. "Lemme' find out y'all got something going on.. ima kill the both of y'all."

She looked her up and down once more before turning on her heels and walking away.

That was the first time that she had ever accused of of sleeping with her husband. I mean, then accusations were correct but it wasn't like they had sex recently. Maya was too busy trying to figure out her life. She couldn't do this nannying shit forever and eventually shit was going to go left. It was clearly only a matter of time.

A week had passed and it was the night of Sincere's surprise party.

"No, that goes right there." NaTasha ordered the party planner as she put of decorations. For some reason, she didn't want Marie planning it so she hired somebody to plan instead.

Maya knew in her mind that she was just bitter. It was sad actually. The grand ball room they had rented out had seated more than 300 people and was decorated to the T with the masquerade decorations.

They had decided to go with an masquerade ball theme because... why not. So attire was formal and every guest had to have on a mask.

It was going on 7:30 and the guests were finally starting to arrive. People from their church, family, friends, and even some neighbors and begun to fill up the space. Some took pictures in the photo booth while some began to get settled at the round tables.
