It was a gloomy and cold morning in Seattle. It was quiet, too quiet to be honest. Maya opened her eyes and saw Carina had her face burried on her chest, sleeping soundly. She loved seeing her wife sleep, she looked so peaceful.
Maya tried to get up to make breakfast, but Carina woke up and said:
-Bambina, no.
-Baby, I have to get up, I have to work, please. Maya smiled and said.
-Can't you call in sick? we haven't had any time for ourselves lately, you 're working too much, I miss you. Carina wasn't happy. Great way to start the day.
-Carina, I'm Captain of 19, I have to be there for my team, you know that. Maya tried taking Carina's hand but she moved it.
- Well, I am your wife and you have to be there for me too, I miss you Maya, I miss spending time with you, for god's sake, we're trying to get pregnant, we've done IVF, I can't keep doing this if you won't be here. Carina was almost crying.
Maya thought for a second...
-Do you feel like that? Carina, I've been here, I am here right now, look at me: I love you and I'm never leaving you alone, especially now when your trying so hard to give me the most amazing gift ever.
Carina was starting to regret everything she said.She thought it could be the hormones that were driving her crazy.
-I'm sorry Maya, I'm sorry. Of course you're here, come on, hug me.
They stayed like that for a couple of minutes until Maya saw the time.
-Oh, crap! I'm sorry baby, I have to get up now. Coffee?
-Si. Carina smiled at her wife
Maya went to the kitchen and poured some coffee for herself and Carina. She took said coffee mug to bed.
-Grazie bella.
-My pleasure. Now, I gotta run, have a good day. Call me later? Maya suggested
-I will. I love you. take care. Carina was always worried when Maya was at work.
- Love you too.
And then Maya procedeed to kiss her wife and left.
The day at the station was boring to be honest, no major calls, just a couple of emergencies that required the Aid car. Maya was doing some paperwork when her phone rang. She saw it was Carina.
-Hey, Carina, everything okay?
-Hi bella, yes everything's fine, just checking in. Are you okay?
-Ye-yeah, I mean, a little bored but okay.
-Okay, um, I'm at the grocery store, you need something? Carina asked
-Actually yes, how about some... chocolate sauce? Maya said this and her face went red
- I wonder why you want that Captain Bishop.
-Actually it's Deluca-Bishop, you know I have a super super hot wife
-Oh you do? So you want it to play with her?. Carina said mischeviously
-No, For pancakes obviously. Maya laughed
-Oh, okay then, no chocolate sauce for you. Carina joked
- Bye I love you. Maya said and hung up.
The end of the shift was near and Maya couldn't be more happy about it. She couldn't wait to get home with her wife. Before leaving she saw Andy.
-Hey Andy
-Hi Maya, what's up?
-Listen, I need to take the day off tomorrow, Carina's not doing so good lately and this morning we almost fight because she thougth I was leaving her alone all the time. Can you fill in as captain? please. Maya did her puppy eyes.
-Of course I can. Now go and spend some time with her.
-Thanks Andy.
When Maya arrived at the building, she parked and walked to her apartment, she had the feeling that something was up. She opened the door and saw that the table was laid, there were two candles lit up, and there was a lot of food on the table. She thought she had forgotten an special date, but no.
-Carina? Maya shouted
No response
-Carina, where are you?
No response.
She checked the guest bedroom, she wasn't there. Then she checked their bedroom, no sign. Then she saw the bathroom door was closed. She knocked on it.
-Carina? Baby are you in here?
Carina opened the door slowly and she was holding something...
-Omg, baby, is that...?Maya said almot crying
-Yes, it is bambina, I'm pregnant
-We're having baby? Maya said surprised
-We are. I love you bella
-I love you too.
