The tall, silver haired boy yawned and stretched, smacking at the alarm clock that told him it was time to get up for school.

"Silverhawk!" called his mother from outside his room. "You'll be late if you don't hurry up!"

Grumbling, he got out of bed and got dressed, tattoo rippling as he pulled on a shirt. He grabbed his bag, kissed his mum on the cheek, and walked out the door to his car, fumbling in his pocket for the keys.

Instantly a pack of what appeared to be large dogs swarmed around him, snuffling his hands and wagging their tails. A long legged, red female stood off from the rest, molten gold eyes fixed on the ground. She held one paw off of the ground delicately, and small whimpers were barely audible. The boy walked over to her, and she cringed, cowering as if she were expecting a clout.

"Now, Rum, how did that happen?" he asked, fingering her shoulder gently, looking concerned.

The she-wolf looked at him for a moment, then sent an image of a hunter with a gun into his mind. Sighing, the boy said, "Go on into the house. Mum's got some clothing she'll lend you, then go into my room to shift. Meet me back out here."

Five minutes later, the she-wolf walked back out, in human form. Her waist-length hair was red, with black ends. She clutched her shoulder, the spaghetti strap shirt she wore avoiding the deep gash in her arm. Her hand covered it, and blood poured through her fingers. Her teeth were clenched tightly together, and she glanced up at his face, their eyes meeting briefly before she looked back down at the ground. She wobbled slightly in the borrowed kitten heels as she stepped over to the youth, coming to stand a few feet away. Gently he placed his hand on her good shoulder, guiding her into the house for some much needed medical attention.
