6 - Dinner "date" (part 2)

~Gaara's POV~

I waited for Lee to come out of the shower. It only lasted 5 minutes, but it seemed like an eternity for me. As he finally came out, water dropping from the tips of his hair, he looked gorgeous. This view was something I would have missed for nothing in the world.

"Gaara, for dinner I made you one of my favourite dishes from Konoha ! I hope you'll like it." He said, walking into the kitchen. "Please sit down at the table. I will bring it right now."

He came back with two steaming bowls. As he placed them down, I was able to see what were in them. There was fried meat on top, with other supplements, such as vegetables and eggs. Under it, there seemed to be rice ?

"It's called Katsudon ! I hope you will like it !" He said, with the brightest smile.

"Thank you for the food." I said as I took the chopsticks next to the bowls.

I mixed the dish and picked up a bit with the chopsticks and looked at how delicious it looked before putting it in my mouth. The food seemed to melt on my tongue. It had such a perfect taste and texture. Salty and oily meat, yet cleansing and refreshing vegetables, and the rice was as squishy as the rest, not too hard, not too soft. The whole thing was of a gentle and friendly, yet cheerful warmth, as if it were reflecting Lee's personality.

I looked up at Lee. He was staring at me with a goofy smile, with rosy cheeks and loving eyes. This only made me hope he would like me. I continued eating the amazing dish Lee had made. The... Katsudon...?

"It really is delicious, Lee. I didn't know you could cook."

"I didn't know you were so cute." He said, gazing at me.

I froze and looked up at him. I saw he did the same thing. I blushed extremely, so much I could feel the steam coming out of my forehead. Lee wasn't any better.

"W- W-What ??" I stuttered, dropping my chopsticks.

There was a silence as we stared at each other, still blushing.

"I- It's- I- I just thought that you're c- cute when you eat !! It's not-... Yeah... S- Sorry..." He said, putting his hands on his face to cover his blush.

We continued eating in silence because of the embarrassment of this situation. Though, how can I be cute ? I'm the person who almost killed him, 3 years ago... But I could not believe it. This basically confirms that he likes me ! ...I think ? I should tell him I like him ! I can do it !

"U- Uhm ! I wanted to-"

"I have to tell you something, Gaara !"

We both paused and looked, puzzled, at each other and chucked.

"You go first." I said, smiling.

"What is wanted to say is that I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable or anything with my comments earlier. That wasn't my intention..."

"Oh. Don't worry about it. I'm okay with it."

"T- The truth is that the ninja's attack, from one week ago actually a genjutsu. And this somehow made me fall in love with you. But don't worry it's only temporary ! It's just that because of it, I have been thinking of you and how cute you are... and stuff like that, hehe." He said as he rubbed the back of his head.

...

What ? So this whole time, he was indeed in love with me, but because of the genjutsu's influence ? These moments we spent together... Were they all... fake ?

"I- I'm sorry... I need to go now."

I picked up my things and jumped from the window, onto a mat of sand I made. I ignored Lee who was trying to catch up to me and flew into the sky, into the clouds. I know. How immature of me.

I knew I should not have hoped for something to begin. I knew I had no chance from the start. There was no way he could love me after what I did to him. I was never loved to begin with. I have never been loved. And I never will. I am not loveable. Only an eternity of loneliness awaits me.

I could only find comfort in these clouds. I could seperate myself from the village, the people who don't care about me, the people who do and hate me, the cruel world I lived in. I could find peace. Alone.
