chapter 1 - meant to be

Kun blinked confusedly while moving the dirty plate inside the big kitchen. The stream of memories and information about his last life started filling his head, Kun started losing his breath, the image of his last 8 life rushing like a lightning won't give him a second to gather his thoughts. A loud firework brought him back to reality.

"Happy birthday," his mom greeted him softly before she walked past him to move the dirty plate.

Kun sighed softly as he moves the dirty plate. His mom asked him to go home after he put the plate near the counter.

"Go get some food and get some rest," she said pushing Kun away softly.

Kun nodded and kissed his mom's cheek before leaving the kitchen using the back door. He can hear a loud noise and see blinding light from the front of the mansion. The family is having a new year's party and he wanted to help his mom however he still needs time to process the memories he just got as soon as he turns 20 years old.

It's his 9th life... his last life.

The man standing so proudly with a woman in his hold was talking to a friend. It wasn't clear but Kun know it is him. His husband and partner for the last 8th life. Kun was contemplating if he should remind Sicheng about his past life like he had been doing 8th life before or should he wait until Sicheng turn 20 and get the memories on his own.

Kun touches his chest as the memories of Sicheng say that he was bored with his life with Kun. Sicheng said it playfully however Kun knows that Sicheng really means it.

Sicheng wasn't the most caring husband in their 8th life, Kun wouldn't blame his thought. It was hard for Kun too, living the same life over and over again. Kun know Sicheng, inside out. There is nothing that Kun didn't know about Sicheng.

Sicheng pointed out one time and it never left Kun's head ever since, "do you notice that we don't talk much anymore?"

At some point, they don't talk anymore. They had known each other way too long.

Almost every day Kun heard people point out that he doesn't look happy when he was with Sicheng. They were asking what is the point of living together if they don't love each other. They are wrong though -

There isn't any life that Kun ever breathed not loving and thinking about Sicheng. He cares about Sicheng, he enjoyed and is happy living his whole life with Sicheng. Even during their last lives, Sicheng doesn't look happy when he was with him. Kun is happy as long as he was with Sicheng.

Different cases for Sicheng though. There is a lot of time, Sicheng unknowingly hurt Kun's feelings with his words. Most of the time he said it jokingly but it hurt Kun more.

A man that he had been living with for 8 lives was so careless about his feeling. The fact that Kun can see that Sicheng's love for him is running out and the fact that Kun was always ready to create whole new memories with him.

It's sad the way Kun is the only one trying.

So many times, Sicheng said, 'I think we had lost sparkle.'

'What if for the next life, we try something different? Something new?'

'Do you think we will still be together for our last lives?' he said in a mocking way.

'Aren't you tired of me? Because I am tired of you,' he said it jokingly.

Kun had doubts that they will be together for their last lives because Sicheng clearly look like he didn't want to live with Kun. He is tired of repeating the same life with Kun - and Kun thinks that it's impossible to live your 9th life with the same person...
