Michael Clifford

I watched Serena in the OR through the glass of the room where I was supposed to be scrubbing in.

Her hair was tied back and secured in a cap and a nurse was draping her body with blue tissue paper. Even if she wasn't terrified of anything medical, this procedure is scary.

Not only is a catheter being inserted through her groin, all the way up to her heart, but she was laying on a hospital bed, completely naked.

Doctor Watson entered the scrub room, resting a hand on my shoulder, "Michael if you aren't comfortable doing this, you don't have to."

I swallowed the lump in my throat, turning off the sink, "I can do it."

She let go of my shoulder, starting to scrub in herself, "You're an excellent doctor, Michael."

Although I was absolutely shitting myself, hearing Doctor Watson say that was slightly calming. Thankfully, my mask hid the nervous look on my face as I walked into the operating theatre.

"Serena? How are you feeling, love?"

A nurse was holding her hand as she turned to face me.

"Michael," she said softly, a small smile on her face. Her under eyes were wet with tears but she didn't seem to be crying now, in fact she looked rather calm. Even her vitals seemed to be normal.

A nurse tied my gown and helped me put on a pair of gloves before I went to stand beside Serena while we waited for Doctor Watson.

"I don't like it when you're dressed like that," she joked, "It covers your pretty face."

I laughed, "Oh someone gave Ms Serena a relaxer it seems."

The nurse joined in with my laughter, "Two actually. Doctor Watson gave her one in pre op and the anesthesiologist ordered one because her heart rate was too high."

I nodded, "She should be fine then. Serena, you can sleep if you get tired, okay?"

"Okay," she hummed.

Doctor Watson entered the OR, also scrubbed in just in case I mess up. The pit in my stomach was growing by the second and I was starting to get nauseous.

"I can't believe you're about to see my vagina," sighed Serena. Everyone in the OR let out a chuckle, she even managed to get me to crack a smile.

Right when I was about to make the cut, my nerves where at an all time high, but Serena's sweet voice said something that immediately calmed me down.

"I love you, Mikey."

And after telling her I lobed her too, I began the procedure.

Serena Irwin

Towards the end of the angiogram, I was starting to get fucking reckless.

Whatever drugs they gave me were starting to wear off and I was now fully aware that my legs were spread wide open and the boy I've had a crush on for the past ten years had a full view.

"Fuck," I mumbled.

"Almost done, honey," I heard Michael say.

Thankfully, about 5 minutes later, everything seemed to be ready and a few nurses wheeled me out of the OR and back to my hospital room.

Ashton was waiting for me, immediately taking my hand when I got there.

"How are you feeling?"

"Like shit."

He pushed my hair out of my face and rested a kiss on my forehead. My parents, followed by Mikey and Doctor Watson soon entered.

Everyone seemed rather relaxed so I came to the conclusion that I in fact was not dying.

"The angiogram showed that Serena has SCAD."

"How badly?" asked Ash quickly.

"We caught it early, it should heal on its own. She just needs regular follow ups with her cardiologist to keep an eye on everything," explained Michael.

Mum was crying as dad held her and Ashton let out a breath of relief, "Thank god," he sighed.

"Um hello," I intervened, "What the fuck is a SCAD?"

Michael found my confusion amusing, laughing as he pulled up a chair to my bedside.

"It's a tear in the inner layer of your arterial wall. SCAD actually stands for spontaneous coronary artery dissection, so literally, this just happened out of nowhere."

I was still kind of confused,"So what? Now it just goes away?"

Michael shrugged his shoulders, "Pretty much, yeah. But you thought we were bad before, your brother and the rest of us are gins be way more on your ass about going to the doctor now."

As much as I hated the doctor, I didn't want to die. Plus, Michael can be my cardiologist, and I like Michael.

"I'll just come to you."

"No. You'll go to Doctor Watson who is trained fully," replied Michael.

I smiled, "Right."

"Okay princess, you need to get some rest," said my dad, "We'll be just outside, get some sleep, okay?"

No matter what, hospitals still make me uneasy, "Ash, can you stay?"

He nodded, smiling at me before moving my body to the side and joining me in the hospital bed, "Now sleep, Rena. You need it."
