A scream could be heard from a certain someone's house in this fairly dense and lively town; along with the sounds of a wine glass breaking and a physical fight going on. Though, this town was usually quiet in the near nighttime, where most would be asleep like the very standing logs around town here and there. The residents of this lovely little town are full of joy and glee, or... At least most of them are. Some live alone, some feel they're alone, some are abused... And others, possibly insane.
The town's quiet until... Someone's fighting their loved one in their own house, or maybe even worse. This was the life a 18 year-old Mari knew; a life in a town of nice- yet slowly deteriorating_ people. Along with an abusive father who would occasionally abuse his wife, but not his kids, and a brother who might just be insane... To say the least, things couldn't get any more fucked up from here. Not that this town is a place of misfortune to Mari, but as if it could.
Mari tried to see if she couldn't somehow get high and block the sound of her mother's screams, though she was used to this by now.
She was alone in her bedroom as per usual, and was extremely excited for next week's duet, as it was going to be the last thing Mari would have to worry about this year... When you don't put the last few tests, homework, and other things she had to do this year. Not only that, but also since it'll probably be the last bonding chance she'll get with her brother before soon heading off to college. Being 18 is a mix of depression, anxiety, and stress... All of those things, being things Mari was used to now. She had just now finished up her homework for today, and was ultimately failing to block out the disturbing noises echoing from downstairs. She thought for a moment about how she could enlighten herself without accidentally snatching her dad's drugs.
The upcoming event had been stuck in Mari's mind for what felt like an eternity, and she had been practicing for over a month now, and she was, imagining what her brother's part in the duet would sound like when combined with Mari's piano. After a bit of daydreaming, Mari's bedroom door slammed open. She jumped at the sound, struggling to not look like she was about to go and be an absolute bitch to humanity. It was Sunny, Mari's brother.
"Dad's trying to kill mom again...." Sunny said, in a slightly unhappy tone. Mari had expected him to say that, as it was literally one of the only few things he'd ever talk about to anyone.
Mari shook her head. "You know what to do, go show dad whose kids' he's fucking with. Or, I dunno, get a goddamn cavalry. We've fucking talked about this." she moaned, not caring enough to deal with today's dose of shit.
Sunny closes the door when he hears Mari's response, as she sighs. This was something Mari had gotten used to. And it was also something Sunny would have to get used to... Provided their mother doesn't write their father out of the family before Sunny leaves the nest. Though, there was a huge difference between him and Mari.
Sunny cared... But there were some times where he'd struggle to respond to someone, as if he was deep in thought _ or even in some kind of trance. Mari didn't know why this was, and she still refuses to ask Sunny herself; but it was very assumable that it was just because of the way dad has been nowadays. Though, it was as if Sunny had been hiding it ever since that one time he tried to push Mari down the stairs. But, it wasn't any of Mari's concerns at this point..
Mari laid down on her bed, tired from today's shenanigans. Soon, she could hear her phone going off. She takes it from her bedside table and takes a look. It was a text from Aubrey, an old friend who practically taught Mari how to curse. "You okay-? I just heard a scream-" the text said.
"No, My dad's just being a bitch again" Mari texted back, laughing a bit as she did. Aubrey's reply came back soon after.
"You're not caught up in the matter, are you? You can always get the police to take his ass"
what a suggestion, Mari thought, laughing. Even if she did call the police, the police would only do their shitjob like they always do. Nice try, Mari thought as she texted back. "You know they suck at that"
"Well, I can always take care of your terrible dad for you if you want. It'd probably make Omori less cold and quiet." Came Aubrey's reply.
Why do they call him that, Mari wondered. She knew who Aubrey was talking about; Sunny. Sunny's friends call him Omori every now and then, and Mari has no idea why. Mari didn't really wanna question the weird nickname herself, she just thought it was some kind of way of friendship.
"Nah, it's fine. He's gonna have to get used to it unless dad gets kicked out of the house." Mari texted back. "And I sure hope mom gets that over with quick." she added.
"You sure you wouldn't like that?" Aubrey replied.
Mari rolled her eyes. She would like that, but if she had anyone try, it would more than likely result in absolutely nothing but a ton of scars. Mari could still hear fussing and yelling coming from downstairs. I fucking swear, if he tries to harass Sunny, Mari thought, knowing that one of the voices yelling was Sunny. Dad didn't abuse Sunny or Mari, but if he did... Well, let's just say that he'd already have been kicked out of the family.
"I'm used to it, y'know, dad's mean- Hope to hell he gets his ass kicked out."
Mari chuckled as she sent the reply, imagining Aubrey howling with laughter at it.
"Yeah! That'd be GREAT!"
Mari smiled. She did like the idea of kicking her naughty dad's ass out of the house for all of the fucked up things he's done to his wife, not to mention how much he ignored Sunny's feelings.
That's when Mari could hear more screaming. This time, only louder, and coming from the basement. "Oh shit, I think dad's lost it. One second." Mari texted back, her eyes blinded with worry. Fuck, what am I even thinking, Mari thought as she sped off to the scene of Sunny somehow not struggling to hold their dad off in the basement. He was just standing there, with his mother behind him, looking terrified. He was staring at dad, who was unconscious. Sunny was holding something...
However, Mari couldn't tell what it was, as the lights weren't on, and there wasn't any light in this particular room, other than a small window that barely gave off light. But how did he manage to kick dad to the floor, Mari thought. The look on Sunny's face was a pure, neutral-seeming, carefree smile. Mari also noticed that Sunny's clothes looked rather... off. What was that weird stain on them...? And what's this stuff on the floor around dad...? The lights were turned off, so Mari turned them on. Her eyes widened when she realized what Sunny had in his left hand.
A fucking kitchen knife.
Stained with his own father's blood.
