Vivian Koi was a girl with no memory of the past. All she remembered was the doctors telling her that she only had three days to live, then she went to the hospital for another impossible surgery. Now she was awake again, staring at a window as long as a school bus surrounded by a beautiful wall of gold and white swirls. The view was impeccable to her; but it was also extremely alien.
There were buildings outside even taller than the one she was already in; with blue and gold lights in the windows of it. There were people streaming down the halls that Vivian could see since it was probably about midnight.
They would do absolutely anything and everything to help her, Vivian thought as she remembered her parents, as scientists themselves, could find a cure on their own. But, unfortunately, they had to admit Vivian into the hospital for more professional examination.
They had tried to get rid of her disease, a rare form of Cardiotoxity, which had been a recently discovered disease that makes the heart shrink. It shrinks smaller and smaller, until it shrivels up to nothing at all.
Vivian looked around the room. Just when she was about to call for someone, she noticed a large, metal ring around her chest right below her neck that was glowing, wires poking out from inside. She touched it, then pulled her hand back sharply when it shocked her. The shock seemed to send a strange wave of tingling through her whole body, and it seemed like it was directly under her extremely pale skin. She guessed during the time she was in her surgery, which she did not know, she did not go outside or see any ray of sunlight.
"... And I'll make sure she gets that, Dr..." she replied to someone outside Vivian's door, before she stopped immediately in her tracks when she saw Vivian move.
"Oh... Oh my God. She's awake! Dr. Persephone, come quickly! She's finally awake!" She ran to Vivian's side.
"What happened? Did my surgery do well?" asked Vivian, but her voice sounded scratchy, like she was talking for the first time.
"Surgery...? Oh, right. Yes, it went according to plan... You are even more beautiful while awake!" the nurse said, smiling like a snake with it's jaw unhinged and staring at her with giant green eyes. She sounded as if she was reading off of a card. Vivian had never in her lifetime been called beautiful. She used to look in the mirror at her face, with its pimples, her sharp, slanted eyes that had a bright blue hue, her pale skin, and her black, silky hair that was very thick and almost always braided. She had inherited those traits from her father, who was from Korea, but her mother was from the U.K.
She had beautiful shoulder-length black hair and piercing blue eyes, like Vivian's.
Even though her eye color made Vivian feel like a freak, but her friends told her they made her look beautiful. Though, would you really care about petty looks when you could and would die in three whole days?
"So, why happen yester..." Her words sounded strange, so she tried to rebuild the sentence.
"So, what happened yesterday? Did my surgery do well? Where are my parents?" Vivian hoped that the answer would be Blair and Kim Koi coming through the door, hugging and kissing Vivian, but apparently that would not be the case.
"Oh! I have got to go. The doctor is paging me. Your brother will be coming to your room today; he has every day that you have been here. I just can't believe it worked!"
Vivian was confused. She tried to move her muscles, but then found that she was bound to the bed by thick ropes.
"May I get up, ma'am?" asked Vivian as nicely as possible before the nurse could leave.
