Before we begin, let me tell you about myself. I'm Blare Rose (Penname), I'm 18 currently, and I like to write in accordance to various fanfictions and a few originals too. I have a book in Sofanovel and Goodnovel which is under a pay-to-read program, though my fanfictions are posted here on Wattpad. There are many mirroring sites that loves to take books from Wattpad and mine are not an exception. I think it's a Vietnamese platform? I no longer bothered, my faithful readers knows who is legit :>
Anyways, let's go? If you have questions or queries, feel free to send me a Private Message. I'll try to help.
Anyways, I made this book since I see many are struggling, and I want to help. All written here are based on my opinion and perspective, to write a book is clearly through self-discovery at most for personal taste. But these are the common tips of mine to help~
First of all, in writing a book, you have to have some ideas. But first, let's make an assessment!
Try to answer the following:
- Why do you want to write?
· What exactly do you want to write? The answer to that will lead for you to find out just what you want to do with writing. Why? Just why do you want to write? Does it satisfy you in a way? Does seeing your readers voting and commenting give you the satisfaction? Did you see your favorite author make a book and it made you want to write as well? You need to know why you want to write; it will give you motivation.
- What do you want to write?
· It can be an original work, a fanfiction, or even just random books of short stories that catches your will to write. Be firm on what you want because confusion often led to mixed up stories and too much confusion to continue. Do what you want, write what you want.
- What gave you the motivation to write?
· (Lol, writing this right now makes me want to sleep instead xD) But hey, motivation is the key, it's what allows us to write. It's the 'push' we need to write more and increase that word count. Without motivation, it's nothing, no will to write, no passion. So, what gave you the motivation to write such literary works? Keep that motivation in heart. Losing that motivation, means losing the will to write. Losing the will to write, leads to cancelled works, hiatus, and inevitable deletion.
- What do you want to happen in regards the book?
· Will it be short-term? Long-term? What book are you planning on making? A trilogy? A one-shot? You need to know what you want to do with the literary work, to begin in planning out completely and accurately. We don't want too many changes that disrupts the plot, now do we?
- What can you define as a successful publishing of a book?
· Completing a book, is that what you see as 'successful'? Getting hundreds to thousands of reads and votes, is that what makes a book successful? Keep in mind that everyone has their own 'standards' and 'perception', therefore, people and authors may have different perspectives as to how they define 'success'. How about you, what makes your book a publishing success?
- Does it make you happy?
· Does writing make you happy? Or are you planning to write, to earn and get those extracurricular credits in a literature club? Answer this question; Does writing make you happy? If yes, then continue on! If no, then you should probably think this through (And remove this tutorial book from your library--). Remember, anything you do that does not make you happy, will never be a complete success. What's the use of 'success' in publishing if you're not happy?
- Does it affect other people negatively?
· The freedom of writing anything you want, comes with limitations and a price. You can write anything that makes you happy, write stories that make other people smile. But in the event that your literary work is stepping on the dignity of a person, or is mocking, and defaming another person or entity—that's wrong. So, let me tell you this, ensure that your book does not affect people negatively. Remember, one should never flourish at the expense of the misery of others.
- Does it affect other people positively?
· Does it make other people smile? Laugh? Cry (in a good way)? Or does it INSPIRE people? If so, then, you're on the right track! Make people smile, laugh, and feel inspired with what you write! If your literary work makes them feel all giddy on the inside and cheery, then, that's an amazing work of yours! Avoid negativity, bring in the positivity!
- Who are your target audiences?
· It all depends on for WHO do you write these stories for. Is this story for young children? Young adults? Teens? Or adults themselves? You need to identify as for who do you write this for, and what audience is most suiting for the genre or the type of book you're writing. This will help you get more appropriate readers. (I mean, come on, we can't just let kids read those adult stuffs, right?)
- What factors can hinder you from writing?
· School, work, or personal affairs and responsibilities. There are numerous factors that leads to a person being hindered from writing. It all ranges from physical, to mental and emotional hindrances. Identify those hindrances, learn to manage them and avoid them. Be flexible, don't let those hindrances hinder you. Knowing what they are and how to avoid them is the very first and crucial step to get this problem out of the way.
- What do you use to write?
· Phone? Laptop? Computer? An old typewriter? Yeah, it's hard to write in small devices like phones and tablets, this is worth considering. This is where you'll be able to identify clearly on how long will you write, the convenience, and comfort. Most authors find it much more convenient to write on laptop and computer desktops, while some prefer to write using their phones. On the other hand, there are numerous applications to choose from in writing, ranging from Notepad, to Microsoft Word. Personally, I use Microsoft Word or Google Docs because not only is it easy to navigate and organize, it also notifies me of grammar errors.
- For who do you write?
· Do you write for your friends or readers from their request? Find out exactly who you're writing for. Or... are you writing for yourself? Are you writing this romance novel to confess to your bookworm of a crush? Or are you impressing your peers and teachers? Keep your facts straight, keep your objectives singular and whole.
How about you? Answer the questions and plan on your root cause of writing!
I will try to update this often but I'm more into writing right now xD
