Thompsons P.O.V

"Did you see the photos?" I asked the person on the other end of the call about the destruction dealt to the Koa Atoll.

"I have" The voice on the other end responded.

"Doesn't it look similar to the photos we've captured of that weapon the Eagle Union is developing?"

"It does look familiar to their secrets, yes. But the power the Union has tested has yet to come near the yield that wiped away the Koa Atoll."

"But it's certainly a worry to see what could one day be accomplished, is it not?"

The voice on the other side let out a sigh. "It's definitely worrying, yes. And now they know what it could be capable of"

"It really irks me how many secrets they like to keep, and how many private projects they enjoy developing behind our backs" I said while I tapped my finger against my desk. "It's not a nice feeling to spy on your closest allies too"

"Everyone wants power, you know this. Just be thankful the Royal Navy is more open towards her friends"

"Yeah, it's just the last thing I want is distrust amongst our nations, it would be nice if the Union would share some more"

"You're a commander in the navy, why don't you leave the politics to the government?"

"Because it would hurt for me to see friendships cripple apart and everyone glancing skeptical looks towards one another"

The voice across the line let out a light chuckle while I heard a chair creak in the background. "You're just getting paranoid again Will, You know that would never happen, sure there may be mild skepticism between the countries but it would take something horrific to break the friendship between us"

"Your right" I sighed and leaned back in my chair, seething at the small burst of pain that shot through my abdomen. I had tried to keep it silent but it was obvious they had caught it.

"Still hurting badly?"

"Unfortunately"

"You still have never changed, even when we were young you would go out of your damn way and get yourself harmed in the process. When will you start dialling it back?"

"You know me better than anyone Angela" I paused to readjust myself In the seat. "That will never happen"

"Unfortunately"

"I think it's a good charm of mine, wouldn't you say?" I joked. Angela scoffed on the other end.

"Oh yes, you're a knight in shining armour" She replied with sarcasm, making me laugh. She laughed along with me for a couple of seconds before it died down and we left ourselves in silence.

"So how has the admiral life treated you since we last spoke?" I broke the silence while changing the subject at the same time. On the other end, Angela simply sighed.

"Overloading, to say the least, and the stress you're giving me isn't helping either"

"What stress?"

"You know what stress"

"I'm not a child anymore Angela, you dont need to worry about me any longer"

"You'll never understand" She said while letting out another sigh, leaving me perplexed as to what she meant. Together we sat in another brief silence as both of us seemed to think of what to say next.

"What would I never understand?" I decided to continue the conversation while at the same time trying to gain some new information, however, Angela simply laughed at my question. "Like I said, you would never understand"

"Well you don't know, I mean you may have to lay it out in a more simple format but I'm sure I'd get it eventually" I tried prying further in a teasing tone, but Angela simply laughed yet again. "Oh Will" Was all she said in response before her laughter died off and we were left in yet another brief silence.

"Have you gotten any word on how the battle is going?" She eventually changed the subject to the present.

"No, and I'm getting a little worried. I haven't heard anything since they were a few klicks out"

"I'm sure they are doing alright, they've just been caught up in the fight"

"If it were any regular battle I would be alright, but that beast of a ship is uncharted territory. Not to mention the size of the fleet that surrounds it. It's just. . . I dont know"

"Well it's certainly not something that can be left unchecked, and it's definitely not something you should be face to face with William Thompson" She threatened.

"Oh god I get it, I understand"

"I'm sure you do" She said with sarcasm. "You know a desk just became unoccupied here, would you like to take it?"

"You know my answer"

"Stubborn as ever"

I sat back up straight in my chair before I leaned my elbow on the desk and rested my forehead against my hand while the other still held the phone to my ear. Another period of silence ensued as I let out a sigh. Just then a frantic knocking pounded on my door without end leaving me to extend the pause in our conversation.

"Hold on just a second" I asked Angela before raising my head and lowering the phone from my ear. "Come in"

As if they were waiting for their cue, two ships burst through the door the moment I spoke and rushed towards my desk leaving me a little worried about their actions. "Sir Sir!!" The Royal ship spoke with a happy smile plastered on her face.

"They did it sir!! We just got word! The sirens are defeated and the Orochi has been destroyed!" The second ship then continued to break the news. My heart felt as if it let out a large breath it had been holding since the force had left the base. A smile began to form on my face as I stared at them in disbelief.

"They're on their way home now sir!"

"Then prepare for their return, they will need a warm welcome that's for sure, and perhaps a few repair ships. Go on!" I quickly ordered with excitement. Both of the ships nodded before saluting and rushing back out the door, slamming it closed upon their exit.

"Did you catch that?" I then lifted the phone back to my ear. On the other end, I could hear Angela chuckle.

"I did. You've done it Will, we live to fight another day" She said as she let out a sigh of relief.

"Finally a chance to relax, I couldn't ask for anything more at the moment"

"I can hear the smile on your face, it's been a while since I've heard you so happy"

"I'm so tired Angie, God I couldn't be happier, I could not" I laughed as I rubbed my face. "The girls have needed a good break too, so I'm sure they would be more than grateful to relax a bit"

"Then I'll leave you to it, It's good talking to you"

"Yeah, I best be off to meet them"

"I'll talk to you soon Will. Bye"

"Take care Angela" I ended before I heard her hang up on the other end. Instead of placing the phone back on the receiver, I tossed it onto my desk as I leaned back in my chair and looked up at the ceiling. The smile on my face grew wider as I began to think about all we had gone through. A damaging blow had finally been dealt and had given us a chance to fully recuperate, And I was sure the Red Axis would have the same idea.

Despite the sharp pain, I swiftly shot up from my chair and made my way toward the door. It was time I went to congratulate the victors upon their arrival.
