Narrator POV:

Xiao lay asleep in bed with Aether by his side reading a book. It was mid day and Xiao had just gotten back from a serious battle. He had been bandaged and Aether is taking care of him.

There's just one main thing for said caretaker to do.

~ flash back ~
"Thank you for taking care of Xiao. Make sure he gets lots of rest saying as its how most adepti heal. Although I recommend being by his side during his slumber. He tends to have 3 nightmares all different plots."

Aether listened attentively as Zhongli explained on what to do. Although he and Xiao had been together a while a battle quite as rough as this one isn't common.

"The first is often a fear of his. Most commonly people he cares about leaving him or hating him...

The second being someone dying...

The final is almost always his mothers death."

The first nightmare began before he knew it.

_Phase 1_

"How could you Alatus?" - Bonanus

"Why couldnt you save me?" - Menogias

Xiao was abruptly woken up with tears in his eyes. Aether had shaken him awake.

Before he could adjust to the light of the room he was pulling up to a tight hug. With that he began to notice he was still crying and shaking. He knew the first nightmare was only the beginning of a hell that awaits him.

The adeptus hugged the other as tight as he could hurrying his head in the crook of the blonds neck and wrapping his arms around Aethers back. Doing the same with his legs.

Meanwhile Aether stroked Xiao's hair as to comfort him. Whispering sweet nothings to help the other fall back to sleep.

Soon after the teal haired boy fell asleep Aether laid down on his back keeping his lover close. Xiao adjusted slightly then returned to a deeper sleep.

_Phase 2_

"N-No wake up- I swear I didn't mean to! Wake up!"

Xiao violently shook a certain someone's body as a darker figure walked up behind him.

"My, My, Alatus seems even after you've escaped me you're still a monster? Seems I was right. No matter what that Rex Lapis says you'll always be one."

Xiao just sat there. His spear covered in blood same for his clothing. As well as another thing of his.

The body laying in front of him was his lover Aether. Lifeless. Eyes open still creating an even more horrific sight. Tears streamed down the yakshas face as he sobbed knowing what he had done. Soon he began to shake but not from crying....

_End_

"Xiao! Wake up!"

Xiao woke up with a jolt. He began to notice that the one calling his name was the person who was thought to be dead? He soon realized it was a horrible dream.

After about a minute of taking in his surroundings he looked up at Aether whom had a worried expression plastered on his face. Soon hands cupped his cheeks as a gentle kiss was planted on his lips.

"Are you okay?"

"Hm? O-Oh yeah just uhm a bit shaken up that's all..."

A dazed boy stuttered out a response his voice wavering towards the end.

Unable to find words Aether pulled Xiao into a tight hug. The latter responded by burying his face in the others chest. They sat in a comfortable silence for a while before soon someone broke it.

"I know your having nightmares but you need to sleep. Your still injured."

"Mmm.. fine."

Xiao nuzzled further into his lives chest further attempting to get comfortable. Soon the comfy silence returned and Xiao fell asleep...

_Phase 3_

Xiao lay there his left hand covered in blood as a bloodied kunai knife lay next to him. He was holding a woman with teal high much like the highlights of his own hair. She wore a night gown as it was the middle of the night.

She has been stabbed in the chest and soon to bleed out. Despite being on deaths door she wore a soft smile.

Soon the tween began to speak in a wavered shaker voice....

"Mama please... im sorry don't die please!"

He was shaking holding onto his only living family left. Loud sobbing blurred his vision.

Soon the woman grabbed his cheek as to comfort him. Both knowing whatever she was about to say would be the last thing anyone would hear from her.

"My dear Alatus, do not feel guilty. I know what is to be endured and I'm sorry I cannot be there to save you. But please stay strong.... I could never blame you.... 'Xiao?'"

Fading back to reality

"Xiao? Xiao wake up!"

The blind tried desperately to wake up his lover whom was sobbing in his sleep. Speaking helpless pleas.

The boy who was as previously mentioned to be sleeping was subconsciously squeezing Aether tightly. As if if he would to let go his lover would vanish. Although who he thought was hugging wasn't exactly his lover though it does rhyme...

As his mothers final word was said he soon began to wake up.

'Xiao? Why did that voice sound different...'

Soon a voice slightly faded started becoming clearer in his head. Soon it came to him that it was the lovely Traveller. He opened his eyes to find that he was crying?

His brain seemed to had of flat lined because nothing made sense. Like when you just woke up and someone is talking to you.

(Wait isn't that what's happening oh stfu it sounds cool.)

Soon it all came back to him as his vision started to focus. The first thing he was greeted with was a worried face and his sore eyes. He remembered everything and started to helplessly breakdown.

He unmediated went back to hug his lover who was now back to sitting upright with Xiao in his lap.

As the adeptus sobbed into the others shoulder the blond simply stayed quiet. He seemed to have picked up the signs that xiao wasn't exactly in the right state for communication.

The two lay there in bed hugging eachother close. Aether would occasionally kiss Xiaos head as he play with his hair and used his other arm to hold him close. Both so entrapped in each others embraced the recent stressful events ceased to exist
