I think god teaches us lessons in weird ways. through people, animals, disease, hard times, good times, and even through our own actions.
But all the things that he does for us, is just training.
Training for out future struggles.
And though he Doesn't want you to look on your past. sometime you just need to go back and grasp the lessons you learned and take them with you to better your future.
