chapter eight ♰ Stevie Nicks
In all honesty, Steve didn't know what the fuck he was doing.
Sydney Sommers was like... being debauchedly high. Like he had one puff too many from a joint, or an excessive amount of edibles, now he was just spiralling. She was like if vodka was a human and he had lost all inhibition. Sydney Sommers was as addictive as heroin without meaning to be ━━ for example, she couldn't make it any clearer that she wanted nothing to do with Steve, yet he couldn't stop thinking about her. She had this raw kind of magnetism that made Steve's brain thaw into syrupy matter. It wasn't like a crush ━━ Steve had plenty of them. He had been lovesick for many girls. It wasn't like that with Sydney. He didn't have a crush on her. That was too delicate of a word.
He was gone. Nancy ━━ that was a bone-crush. That was a fancy. But, in retrospect, there wasn't a word to describe how he felt about Sydney. No diagnosis. No clear symptoms. Whatever it was, it was mercurial and ugly and wrong and was starting to cut Steve up into thousands of little, jagged pieces. He didn't want to keep feeling like a pathetic, unwanted, embarrassing idiot around her. But that's how Sydney made him feel. Nancy made him feel cool ━━ kept him on that pedestal of King Steve because she got flustered around him. And because of the blushes on the apples of her cheeks whenever he made her smile. If anything, Sydney made Steve feel like that. Because she had a power over him ━━ and he had no power over her at all.
And now, he was driving her to the movies.
Because Nancy ━━ his girlfriend, he supposed she was now ━━ told him too.
And they were sitting in pure silence.
Yesterday, he had thought about kissing this girl. Abandoning all morals, putting his hands on her waist, grabbing her into him and kissing her till she realised he wasn't a complete idiot. Now, she was sat in the passenger seat of his car and wouldn't even look at him. She even breathed moderately, like she was too scared of startling him.
