 Dempsey POV

"I love you, you know that, Demi," Sawyer states cautiously. "But how the hell did you not know that you were on a date with Chris Evans?"

"I had never seen him outside of being Captain America!" I yell back at her, jumping off the couch and immediately begin pacing. "And you saw, the last one I saw him in, he was clean shaven. Clean shaven and blonde!"

  "But it's Chris Evans!"

"I'm not obsessed with him like you are," I remind her. "2016. That's when Civil War came out."

Sawyer sits on the edge of the couch, setting her own plate back on the coffee table. "Right and it's 2019 now. Where have you been?"

"Living my life like a normal person! I don't do social media like you, or the gossip sites." Then I remember something from the ball game. "Carly introduced herself as Carly Evans but it's not like I know the man's family tree!"

The amount of embarrassment and even humiliation that I am feeling right now cannot possibly contend with any other moment in my life.

Throwing up in the middle of a solo in the school musical in seventh grade? Nope.

Getting stood up for the homecoming dance freshman year by a junior? Nope.

Tripping up the stairs at my college graduation? Nope.

"Hang on, hang on! Maybe you're mistaken." She grabs her cell from the coffee table, unlocking it and fiddling through a few apps. She scrolls looking for something specific from what I can tell. "Here, this was him on Halloween this year."

I take the phone from her, feeling all color draining from  my face. It's his Instagram. I don't even have Instagram. But there he stands, dressed as Crocodile Dundee. And if I questioned it any further, I can see my back in the corner of the photo.

"Oh crap," she whispers, noticing my demeanor. "You've been hanging out with Chris Evans!"

"No, I've been embarrassing myself in front of Chris Evans." Panic floods my body. "Oh my gosh, he's known this whole time obviously. Does he think I was just playing around not knowing he is who he is? Oh no..."

  "What now?"

I start whimpering as I remind her that I went to that Halloween party dressed as Captain America. "No wonder Tara was looking at me strangely, whispering and pointing. And the guide Friday night. Oh my gosh, even the hostess last night. It all makes sense now." I drop to the floor, my legs giving out as the weight of my idiocy comes crashing down on top of me.

"I'm kind of not seeing the big deal over your reaction," Sawyer tells me, sitting back against the back of the couch, looking comfortable in the midst of my self torment. "So your Chris, Ethan's uncle, just happens to be Chris Evans. What's the problem?" I fall back onto the floor, laying out flat on my back.

Maybe she has a point. I know he's an actor, but outside of the Marvel franchise I haven't watched anything else he's been in. I don't follow entertainment sites, or search him out on social media. But, the point still remains that I feel like I've made an idiot out of myself with him.

"Personally, I think this is huge for him."

I turn my head to focus on her for a moment. "He's done the Hollywood actress thing-"

"Don't tell me that!" I cry out, interrupting her.

"Shut up. You know he's an actor and they tend to mingle in the same circles so of course he's dated actresses. I mean," she pauses, thinking for a second, "I know there was Jessica Biel for like five years."
