Chapter Thirty Seven: Regret

Jongho POV
We arrive at the island. I park the ship at the edge and go inside to get my backpack. I open the door to bedroom where the others are hastily packing the last few things.
"Here your backpack.", Yunho says and throws my stuff towards me. I look at Yeosang and Wooyoung who are talking on Yeosang's bed. I still didn't get to apologize to them. They don't want to talk to me or anyone else really.
"Are you two not coming with us?", Mingi asks.
"Why should we? It's Hongjoong who wants to find the treasure, not us.", Wooyoung states.

We go onto the deck where Seonghwa and Hongjoong are waiting for us.
"Are the two not coming?", asks Hongjoong.
"No, they don't want to help us anymore.", I reply.
"I'll get them."
I grab the captain by the arm and hold him back from going into the bedroom.
"Just leave them. They are not going to change their mind."
He sighs.
"Fine. But tell them that they will get less gold then."
We get onto the island and walk around for a little bit. There where ruins marked on the map but I can't see any right now. Suddenly San screams and curses in his dialect.
"******! God, I almost tripped and fell down there."
"What do you mean? ", Seonghwa asks.
"That's why you shouldn't run around like a five-year old.", Hongjoong comments.
We get closer to San who stands in front of a big hole. Mingi kneels down and shouts into it.
"Helloooo!"
"Should we climb down there?", I ask.
"Better not, what if it goes straight through the island or it leads to the house of a dangerous animal."
"Let's look around more first.", the captain utters.
Two minutes later it seems like we have come to an edge. Is the island so small?
"It seems like the island already ends here. Should we climb down the hole then?"
"I am not sure. It's very dark..."
While the others talk I go towards the edge. It feels a bit weird that the island would be this small. It looked bigger on the map.

It turns out that the edge is actually a cliff. I see three destroyed houses at a shore. They are in a bit better condition than the ones on the big island and their shape looks unusual. They are shaped kind of wave like. It's hard to tell what exactly they look like from up here. This cliff is around 30 meters high. I don't know if we could climb it down. It would probably be better to park the ship down there.
"Jongho, we are going back!", San screams.
I motion them to come to me.
"I found the ruins."
"Oh wow! It looks pretty.", Yunho exclaims.
"Why am I kind of feeling dizzy?", Seonghwa mumbles as he looks downwards.
"We should land with the ship. It would be too dangerous to climb down."
We go back to the ship. Hongjoong navigates around the island and lands it savely on the beach.
"The beach looks very nice. Can we play in the water after looking around?", San asks.
"Of course. We aren't in a rush.", Hongjoong answers.
"I'll quickly go down and tell Yeosang and Wooyoung that we landed here. Maybe they want to relax at the beach too.", Yunho says and disappears through the hatch while we leave the ship. I take off my shoes. It feels nice to walk at the beach and feel the sand between my toes. Yunho comes back with the two slowly following behind him.
"Hey, we haven't seen each other in a while. How are you?", Hongjoong tries to greet them but they ignore and walk past us straight to the water.
Hongjoong looks pretty disheartened by their reaction, so Seonghwa puts his arm around him.
"Let's just explore these houses for now. Maybe we can try and talk to them later."
If only I hadn't suggested keeping the weapons back then... It hurts me to see everyone be sad because of my mistake and I don't want to loose them as friends either.

We enter the first house. Apart from their unique shape, the houses are also made out of the same stone that the cliff consists of. The inside is covered in sand and the furniture has mostly turned to dust and what hasn't looks similar to the furniture that we saw on the first island. We find a few metal scraps on the floor but nothing of interest. The other two houses look almost identical on the inside and there's nothing that could help us inside of them either. It is getting kind of frustrating. We looked through every ruin we have come across and still haven't found anything. The next island is already the one with the temple where we are going to need all of the amulets.
"What now?", Seonghwa asks.
"Beach time!!", San exclaims and wants to run off but grab him by the back of his shirt.
"There is a cave over there. We should check it out.", Yunho remarks and points towards the cliff.
"Oh, yeah. I didn't see that one. Let's explore it.", Hongjoong says.
