Good Impression

The second that the door behind Johnny and I closed, I was once again greeted by the warm sun that I spent most of my morning in. I could feel my face slowly start to warm from the sun beating down on it, almost reheating the very sunburn that had appeared on my face. I look over at Johnny, our hands tightly clasped together, and flash him a warm smile. I watch his face light up in return to my smile. I was perfectly content with exactly the way things were right now, but I was also just so excited to find out what Johnny had planned for us tonight. As we walked down the sidewalk from my apartment, an all black car quickly pulls up out of no where, and I once again glance over at Johnny, raising an eyebrow.

"Ah, our ride is here." Johnny says to me, laughing a little bit.

"Did you hire someone to drive us around tonight?" I ask him, looking back at the car. I hear Johnny laugh a little bit before opening the door for me. I look at him again before carefully getting in the car, and I watch him close the door behind me and walk around to the other side of the vehicle. As soon as Johnny sits down, I hear the driver say something, and my head snaps towards the front.

"Willow? What the fuck?" I say loudly, trying to stifle my laughter when I finally realize that it's her. I hear Johnny laughing beside me, and I look over at him.

"She's been in on it the entire time, she was never going to the beach, she was going to pick up a rental car that she could drive us around in." Johnny says to me, flashing me a huge grin.

"You think I would just let you go on a date without knowing every little detail of how the night goes?" Willow says to me, her eyes peering at me through the rearview mirror.

"I hate both of you for not saying anything to me." I say, trying to stay serious. Johnny and Willow both look at me with puppy dog eyes, and I instantly crack. I start laughing uncontrollably, and both of them join me. After a few minutes of driving, I feel the car come to a halt, and I glance out the window at a small restaurant that seems to be completely empty. I wasn't at all familiar with the place were at, which was surprising considering I've lived here my entire life. Johnny must've picked up on my confusion, because I hear him laugh a little again. I quickly turn my head towards him, my face reading nothing but confusion on it.

"It's not an open restaurant yet, the owner is a friend of mine that was visiting here at the same time I was here the first time I met you. He thought that this would be a perfect place to have a little get away, and he's just doing me a favor tonight." Johnny says to me softly before getting out of the car. I look up at Willow, who flashes me a big smile, before Johnny opens the door next to me.

"Have fun Ms. Anderson, don't do anything I wouldn't do." Willow says to me, giggling a little bit as she says it. I roll my eyes, but can't help but smile at her as I get out of the car. Johnny closes the door behind me, and leans over towards Willow, whispering something to her. I watch him turn back towards me, his eyes almost twinkling in the sunlight. He flashes me a warm smile and holds out his arm, gesturing me to intertwine my arm with his. I gladly do, and we begin walking towards the small restaurant in front of us. I look around at the area and realize that it's perfectly sat along the lake, the shoreline being almost directly behind the restaurant. Johnny and I walk into the restaurant, and we are greeted by a young man who greets Johnny by name, and leads us towards the back of the restaurant. The young man opens a door, leading to a back patio, and when Johnny leads me out to it, I let out an audible gasp. The patio had a single table on it, with candles lined around the edges of the patio. The view showed the lake in all it's beauty, and I can see the sun starting to kiss the horizon, illuminating the area in a beautiful golden light. The table had a beautiful arrangement of flowers on it, with a card placed in the center of it. I look over at Johnny, who has had his eyes on me the entire time, and he flashes me a big smile.

"So what do you think?" Johnny asks me quietly. I feel a smile creep onto my face as I look around the area again.

"It's perfect. The sunset is going to be beautiful, and the flowers that are on the table are some of my favorites." I say to Johnny, tears stinging in my eyes from pure happiness. He smiles at me before leading me over to the table, pulling my chair out for me. I sit down and he walks around to sit across from me. My eyes lock on the flowers that are sitting on the table, my name wrote across the card that's neatly placed in the center of the arrangement. I look over at Johnny, who has a small smile on his face, and I raise a single eyebrow at him.

"I had a little help from Willow with the flowers. She told me the basics, and I did everything else." Johnny says with a smile, before continuing. "They are for you when we leave, and you can either read the note now, or you can save it for later."

"I think I'll save it for later, I want to enjoy the moment right now." I say to him with a warm smile. Everything was absolutely perfect right now, and I wanted to save that note for the end of it, when I don't want it to end. The young man that lead us to our table suddenly appears again, holding two wine glasses and a very nice bottle of wine. He pours us each a glass with a warm smile, and then once again disappears. I look over at Johnny, who is staring out at the lake and the sun that is slowly setting on the horizon.

"You know, I never thought that I would get so attached to a place like this, but I can't help but love every second that I'm here." Johnny says quietly, his eyes still fixated on the beautiful scenery.

"It's an easy place to fall in love with. A lot of people don't see it as anything exciting, since it's not a huge city, but this is home. I couldn't ask for anything better." I say to him, also turning my head out to look at the sun that has sunk even farther down the sky. The sun has gotten so close to the horizon, it's almost kissing the edge of the lake, causing an even more beautiful glow in the sky.

"I'm glad I met you, truly. I can't wait to see what happens, and I can't wait to hear more about you, which leads me to my next question. If you don't mind me asking, of course." Johnny says to me as we both look back at each other. I smile warmly at him, my eyes locked with his.

"It's not going to make me cry again, is it?" I say to him, giggling a little after I ask him. He smiles and shakes his head slightly.

"No, Wren. I'm just trying to find out more about you, things that you haven't told me over the last few months and our extensive phone calls. Tell me something I don't know about you. It can be whatever you want, I just would like to know." Johnny says as he shifts all his attention towards me. I sit there for a minute, trying to figure out what I should tell him. There was one thing, but no one knew about it, not even Willow.

"My father taught me to play piano, and I taught myself how to sing. Of course, I was also in my high school choir, and I participated in a few musicals throughout the years, but I never had the confidence to ever do anything with it. I'm sure I made a great impression with my obnoxious singing the first day we met." I say to him, smiling a little at the memory of the first day I ran into Johnny.

"You're musically talented as well? Is there anything you can't do?" Johnny says enthusiastically. I giggle a little bit, and think of a response to say back to him.

"I can't play the trumpet." I say as I laugh. Johnny raises an eyebrow at me.

"Have you tried?" he asks me, as a smirk appears on his face. I smile at him and nod quickly.

"Trust me, I've definitely tried. Brass instruments are my enemy." I say to him. He smiles at me briefly, and then I can almost see the wheels turning in his head again.
