WE MADE OUR WAY to Glencoe Beach where Sloane and Ferris sat on a bench as I sat on the cement edge with Cam's head in my lap. "Cam, please say something." I pushed the hair out of his face. "Cam." He had an expressionless face, staring straight up at me but almost as if he was looking through me.

"Hey, guys, this isn't working."

Ferris drove us to someone's house where him and Sloane relaxed in the jacuzzi while I sat with my feet in the pool, next to Cameron who sat in a chair, staring straight ahead. "Ferris, who's house is this, anyway?"

"No clue."

"What? You don't know who's house this is?"

"Nope." He shot me a sarcastic smile. "You feeling any better, Cameron?" He didn't respond.

"Cam, why don't you come in here? It's really nice. Or maybe take a swim with Sarah? Cameron, I can flip out real easy, too. It's okay. Sooner or later, everybody goes to the zoo."

"He's not gonna listen to you."

"Then you talk to him, he'd most likely talk to you over either of us." Sloane motioned between her and Ferris.

"It's not-" I stopped talking, noticing that Cam had looked down at the pool. "Cam?" Suddenly, he flopped into the pool. "Cam?" I dove into the pool, making my way to the bottom where he sank.

With what little muscle I had, I pulled him to the top of the water and Ferris helped drag him to the side of the pool. "Oh my god, is he breathing?"

"Cameron. Hey, Cameron." Ferris slapped his face a few times while I shook his shoulder. "Cameron, wake up! Come on, wake up."

"Cameron, please, if you're joking this isn't funny."

"Come on, wake up!" Suddenly Cameron opened his eyes with a small smile on his face.

"Sarah Roseburn, you're my hero."

"You're kidding?" Ferris asked.

"You asshole." I slapped his chest, getting out of the pool.

"You son of a bitch." Ferris dunked him underwater.

"Sarah!" Cameron shouted for me, but I sat on a chair with my arms crossed. He got out of the pool and made his way over to me, sitting next to me. "I'm sorry."

"I was scared, Cam."

"I know, I'm sorry. It was stupid."

"And now my clothes are soaked. What am I gonna tell my mother?" Cameron looked around for a second, reaching behind me to grab something.

"Here, you can wear this." It was his jersey.

"This thing is gonna be a dress on me." But I took it anyway because, let's be real. "Thanks." I went behind some trees to change.
