Y/N POV:Steve and I share a look, then we both walk to the door, but he stops me by gently grabbing my arm.
"Look, Y/N, I'm not trying to pull a 'I'm the man, let me handle this', but I think you should stay in here. I have a feeling he won't hesitate to walk past me if he wants to. If he does, and I can't stop him, you are one more line of defense against him before he reaches the kids," he whispers to me.
I nod, "Yeah, yeah. I agree. It makes sense. The kids come first," I raise up on my tip toes and kiss his cheek, "try not to get your ass kicked."
He nods and walks out the door.
I watch the Steve's interaction with Billy through the peep hole. Billy blows out a puff of smoke and I think about how glad I am that I convinced Steve to stop smoking.
Billy points to the window and I see the four kids duck down.
"Shit! You guys were looking out the window?!?! What are you? Daft?" I whisper-yell at them and they give me a guilty look.
I look back out the peep hole and see Billy shove Steve to the pavement, then kick him.
I quickly drop an f-bomb and look around frantically.
"Y/N!" Dustin says in surprise, having never heard me say the word before.
"Yeah, you heard me, get behind me," I say, backing away from the door as the kids form a small bubble behind me.
Moments later, Billy comes bursting through the door, his jaw set.
"Well, well, well," his eyes lock on Lucas, "Lucas Sinclair. What a surprise. I thought I told you to stay away from him Max. Do you know what happens when you disobey me?"
I step up to him, coming very close, almost chest-to-chest.
"Do you know what happens when you threaten my kids?" I ask.
He stares down at me for a second and quickly dodges around me, grabbing Lucas's collar and slamming him against the wall.
"Maxine won't listen to me so maybe you will. Stay away from her," Billy demands, but Lucas knees him in the crotch, making Billy drop him and stumble backwards.
"You are so dead, Sinclair!" Billy yells.
"No, you are!" I say and punch him in the jaw.
My hand stings, and Billy stands up, laughing.
"Looks like you got some fire in you after all! I've been wanting to meet this little miss screw up who people thought might have murdered her own brother!"
"Get out," I say calmly, putting to fingers on his chest and gently pushing him backwards. That bad feeling I got whenever he was around is now gone. Now, I'm just pissed.
