"The sirens were because Vecna killed again. He killed Fred, Nancy's friend from the school paper," I begin.

"Shit," I hear Eddie mutter. "I suppose the cops think I killed him too, right?"

"I don't know, I didn't hear them mention you," I reply. "But we have a bigger problem. Max is going to be Vecna's next victim."

"Red? How? Why?"

"She's been experiencing headaches and nightmares and she had a vision when we were at the school-"

"You were at the school?"

"Yeah, we kinda broke in."

Eddie smirks.

"Shut up. This is serious."

"Sorry, continue."

"She had a vision when we were there and apparently, Chrissy and Fred both had a vision around 24 hours before they died. So, Max could die tomorrow."

"Then, why are you here with me? Why aren't you helping the others find a way to save Red?"

"Because Lucas turned up and told me you were in danger. I couldn't stay away, not knowing if you were okay. I don't want anything to happen to you."

I feel the tears start to sting my eyes.

Eddie lifts his slender legs, climbing into the boat alongside me. He pulls me into his chest, rubbing my back gently as the tears stream down my face. He puts his head against mine, kissing the top of my head.

For a while, we stay in the same position. Sitting together in silence. Eddie holding me closely in his arms until my tears dry up.

I wipe my cheeks with the sleeve of my shirt, stained from the activities of the last few days.

I slowly sit up and take a deep breath, crossing my legs as I do so.

I want to change the subject. Talk about anything except the upside down, Vecna and all the other monsters and unfortunate happenings in Hawkins. So, I mention the first thing that comes to mind.

"Hey, Eddie?" I ask.

"Hm?" he replies.

"I don't think I've ever seen you without that leather jacket."

"Yeah, I like to keep it on me. Just as a reminder, ya know?"

"A reminder? A reminder of what?"

"Not to turn out like a total ass like my father. This was his jacket that he left behind when he took off."

"Oh, you don't really speak about him. Even before this shit happened between us."

"It's not an exciting subject. He's an ass, I wish he had turned out different but he didn't and now where is he? Not fucking here. That's where. I keep this jacket to remind myself that I can be something better. Better than he could ever be."

"You are Eddie."

"What makes you so sure? I'm currently wanted for murder, Lyssa."

"You're not a bad guy Munson. Anyone with eyes and a brain can see how much you care. If anyone got to know you as well as I do, as we all do, they'd know just how much of an amazing person you are. You're interesting, you're funny, you're charismatic and so enthusiastic, especially about your guitar and D&D. You are capable of being so much more than your dad could ever hope to be. You'll make a much better father than he was."

"You really think so?"

"I know so."

Eddie smiles and pulls me back towards him, planting a kiss on my lips. He slowly pulls away, closing his eyes and placing his forehead against mine.
