parts; i. districts, what they're
known about & clichés

I. Districts

Okay, in this chapter I will be discussing more in depth what each district provides and clichés that authors often use when they create OCs.

District 1

Members of District 1 were known to produce luxury items such as jewelry. Due to their skill in craftsmanship, the goods that came out of District 1 were used to decorate the Capitol. Those who lived in District 1 were some of the wealthiest citizens of Panem. Tributes from District 1 were known as "Careers" because they trained for years before competing in the Hunger Games.

District 1 females:

I always have so much to say about this
tribute. It is such an underused role. Listen to me, it's not a crime to make this tribute at least somewhat bearable! Usually they are flirtatiously shallow and pathetic and always self absorbed and have to be 'sexy' to cover up the fact that they're not good at weapons. They are most of the time the lowest scoring of the Careers. Their preferred weapons always seems to be a dagger, continuing with the 'silly & shallow girly' narrative. They are also probably the least likable of all the tributes, and always seem to die the most undignified deaths before anyone else in the Career pack. Often killed off by mutts or their own allies if they don't die in the bloodbath. Arguably the most overused and prominent stereotype. District 1 females can be very smart and deadly, I mean look at Cashmere, a canon character that doesn't follow these stereotypes. Don't just make up a stereotypical blondie who dies first in the Games. Those
fanfictions also tend to be more boring and lacking
of expertise writing skill. I have personally seen three different fanfictions have a girl from 1 named Diamond who dies early on. If you are planning to kill off your girl from District 1, try to develop her more and plan the death at a reasonable time. It would be unreasonable if every girl from 1 died off in the bloodbath. Try to stay away from mutts, since because of Glimmer the entire population is stereotyped to such deaths.

District 1 males:

These tributes always tend to have a direct death wish on the other players, and are generally characters with little to no backstory. They almost always seem to be snobbish, self-centered, and egotistical to the point of being pathetic. Sometimes fangirls even make them like a laid-back and flirty/charming version of Cato. Please stop that. Also, they almost always have a victor family and end up disgracing their entire family by losing. That is unrealistic; there are way too many of these really. They also have mostly violent, bloody deaths though they always die after their district partner. District 1 Male is usually portrayed as a cowardly bully, intimidating outside the arena but wouldn't last a day once they go in. A common pet peeve is how because of how Marvel killed Rue fans would have them kill the protagonist's often twelve year old ally and then be killed by the protagonist for revenge. This is literally a boring copy of the 74th HG and no one likes that. Instead try to develop this more and add details. You may use mutts on this, since it is rarely seen in the fandom.

District 2

Located in the Rocky Mountains, District 2 was one of the largest communities in Panem. It was also home to wealthy citizens, resulting in a positive relationship with the Capitol. District 2 was known for its masonry and weapon manufacturing. In Mockingjay, it was revealed that the Capitol's army of Peacekeepers trained in District 2. It was one of the career districts, being close to the Capitol.

District 2 females:

District 2 is a huge source of Mary-Sues, many of which secretly love Cato. This is also overused, like the District 1 blondie stereotype, and almost as annoying. Too many fanfictions have protagonists from District 2, and it is generally an overused district since their tributes tend to be the strongest. They almost always use knives, and die later in the Games. Usually, they die some heroic death and is grieved by all the Careers, like her male counterpart. And their only personality traits are acting like they're Clove, trying to be like Clove and being Cato fangirls. Writers, just stop all this nonsense. Personally I think that this tribute is
definitely a bit overused as a protagonist, but I do
recommend making this character out of the
normal. Since they are almost always skillful and
deadly, why not throw in some weaknesses? This
will make your character more likable actually, not
just the one perfect girl who knows 20 different
ways to kill you with a knife. Death ideas could be
mutts -since again, it is only overused on D1 girls-
or Gamemaker-created disasters. They could also
be slain in battle since a common cause of their downfall is their arrogance.

District 2 males:

Ugh, this stereotype is so annoying. The
brutish killing machine who gets the highest
training score and is the last Career to die. This
eliminates an awful lot of reader inferences and
they just go like "Oh, the district 2 boy wins again.
So boring." If you are going to make them win, make sure it's for a good reason. No one wants the victor to be a lapdog, out of all other tributes with such fantastic backstories. Don't just make them, idk, crush on their district partner. There are too many D2 love stories. The fandom mostly does not accept Cato Hadley copies in fanfictions.

District 3

The primary industry in District 3 was technology as the people there produced televisions, computers, and other electronics. During Katniss' Victory Tour, she noticed that District 3 was one of the more rebellious districts. One of the most memorable members who came out of District 3 was Beetee, a victor who displayed his engineering and technology knowledge multiple times during the Second Rebellion.

District 3 females:

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot to say
about District 3 females, but those tributes always tend to be like the most stereotypical version of a "nerd". Come on guys, I'm sure you can be at least a bit more original. And the weird thing is that authors make these females obsessed with knowledge and continuously say that they're very smart only for them to die very early on in the arena. They also are stereotyped to wear glasses and act extremely shy sometimes, so much that it's infuriating.

District 3 males:

Oh boi, District 3 males... They always are on the geeky, techy side. Like the girls of this district, they are stereotypically wearing glasses for some reason, are very shy, introverted and somehow know the answer to every single question in the universe- It is annoying. Also in the beginning they always know less stuff than the girl but then magically the girl forgets everything and the boy is Einstein. And because they end up being "smarter" the authors kill the females off and make the males survive a bit longer due to their wits. And then of course kill them in the next chapter when they're irrelevant.

District 4

District 4 specializes in the fishing industry. The citizens in District 4 were known to be wealthy and very good-looking. Their tributes were also Careers, training from a very early age to prepare for the Games. The most notable members of District 4 were Finnick Odair and Mags Flanagan.
