Skies Beyond: Thus ISAF fought there

The Skirmish

Over the skies of the spaceport, the wyvern knights confidently continued on their mission of paving a path for the main invasion force, so far these humans have not put up much of a fight. They ruthlessly killed the defenseless spaceport personnel all in the name of the Empire.

"These weak barbarians are all that stands in the way between us and the glory of a new world to conquer! Slay them all!", the leader shouted, encouraging his wyvern knights.

The wyvern knights continued their onslaught, they burned down buildings while some slashed and mauled every person they came across. The panicked civilians ran away as fast as they could, but the dragons were faster.

But soon, the wyvern knights would hear a low growl causing some of their dragons to look around wondering where it is coming from, then it got louder and louder, until it was a mighty screech.

"Targets are in firing range, fights on, release your missiles.", Magic-1 ordered his squadron.

One by one, the six F-15s released an AIM-9X Sidewinder missile after their pilots called out "Fox two!". With a loud whoosh, the missiles flew towards their targets at very high speed.

The wyvern knights spotted six dots, followed by a bright light from each of the strange objects. Little did they know, it was death flying towards them at mach 2. The knights could not even react, the lights impacted several of their comrades, ending them and their dragons in a violent explosion.

"By the gods...What is thi-", before the leader could finish his sentence, a missile connected with his dragon, killing him and his mount.

The civilians cheered as their saviors thundered over them, signifying certain death for the vile enemy. Several of the wyverns roared, only for them to be interrupted by an even louder roar, a roar unlike anything they have heard before. The wyvern knights felt something they have not felt in a while, it was fear. They finally came to their senses as they prepared to counterattack.

"S-Shoot those..things out of the sky! Use your fire blasts!"

The dragons fired several balls of fire towards the jets, only for the agile F-15s to dodge and weave around them effortlessly.

"Switching to guns!", the pilots changed their weapons and armed their 20 millimeter rotary cannon.

With a rapid burst from the F-15's guns, the remaining wyverns and their masters were filled with hundreds of rounds. As the invading enemies fell from the sky defeated, the rift in the sky would close while the victors circled around, confirming their kills.

Finally, a quick response force from the marines had arrived with humvees and IFVs, quickly ensuring the safety of the civilians and securing the spaceport.

Suddenly, a mysterious structure would appear in the middle of the spaceport. The marines swiftly surrounded the building guns drawn, ready to destroy anything that comes through.

The building looked as if it was from a fantasy game, the interior was very dark and hard to see through and spot what was on the other side, it also had intricate designs and several crystals adorning its tall pillars.

A sound would be heard from within the building, the sound of dozens of boots marching. With a blow of a horn, the roman-looking soldiers rushed out the building armed with swords and spears. All running towards the waiting marines foolishly.

"Charge! For the Empi-", before the soldiers could even run a meter, they were met with intense automatic gunfire from the marine force. They mowed down anything that emerged from the building with their M16s and M60 machine guns. Ogres would attempt to push through the intense gunfire only to be reduced to a bloody mess from the IFV autocannons.

"Fire fire fire! Don't let anything get through that building!"

The enemy screamed in fear and agony as they were met with volley after volley of bullets. As their numbers slowly thinned, the amount of imperial soldiers going through the building lessened until nothing came through anymore.

"Cease fire! Cease fire now!", the marines stopped firing but kept their weapons raised, slowly the dust would settle, revealing a gruesome mess of bodies piled upon one another. After a tense 30 minute silence, the marines moved forward to secure the building.

"This is the AWACS, nice job Magic Squadron, the airspace is clear of bandits, RTB."

"Affirmative, let's head back", the triumphant squadron flew back to their airfield.

-- 5 hours later --

A combined task force of military and civilian personnel had arrived in response to the portal appearing. They were to send an unmanned vehicle across the portal to conduct reconnaissance.

"The UGV is entering the portal, cameras and instruments are online."

The unmanned ground vehicle drove through the dark portal slowly, monitoring everything along the way. After a few seconds of driving, the UGV enters the new world for the very first time.

The landscape on the other side was breathtaking, green grass swayed with the wind on hills as the sun shines brightly. A world untouched by industrialization and modern society. It left the people watching through the cameras speechless.

The UGV took several pictures and drove back in to be retrieved by the military personnel. The excited scientists eagerly reviewed the data recovered by the UGV while the military personnel prepared to go through the portal themselves.

An armored force of IFVs and tanks would lead into the portal followed by light vehicles and trucks. The convoy prepared to enter as the tanks sealed their hatches, ready for anything that comes their way.

After finishing the final preparations, the convoy entered the "Gate". It was incredibly dark within the building with only the lights of the vehicles illuminating the seemingly empty interior.

Finally, a light was seen at the end of tunnel. The ISAF convoy exited the Gate and entered the New World, this was the start of a brand new era for both worlds.
