Instead of going straight home, like she was supposed to, she went to her old house.
Knock. Knock.
Katy almost knocked a third time when her father opened the door.
"What do you want, you little wuss?"
"I need to talk to you and mom," Katy responded, not expecting him to let her in.
"You're not even aloud to be here," her father responded.
"Who is it Jack," Katy heard her mom say. "Oh. It's you.... It's the jackass."
"Well, I learned from the best," Katy responded.
Her mother gave her a surprised look.
"Hey. Don't say that. Do you understand how rude that is?"
"Do you realize how you basically just deacribed how you've been treating me for the past year?"
Her mom stared at her for a while before her dad said, "Get out and go home."
"You'll need to make me first."
Her dad charged at and hit her. Right then, Katy regretted going into that house..

"What were you thinking," Carol asked. "You know you weren't supposed to go back there! You could've been killed!"
"Lay off the girl Carol. Her father just beat her," Derek responded. Despite his punk look, he had a soft heart.
"Right. Her father BEAT her. She knows that she is not aloud back there and she couldn't even do that!"
"Enough, Carol!"
That's when Carol hit Katy. She was shocked. These people were supposed to be congenial. She assumed that Carol was a like a butterfly.
"Now," Carol retorted angrily. "You go to your room and do NOT come out until I say so. You understand?"
"Honey," Derek said softly. "This is really unnecessary."
"SHUT UP DEREK!!!!!"
"Keep your voice down Carol. The kids are right next door."
"I don't give a damn! She didn't care, so she's getting the consequence."
__________
Katy woke up in the hospital. The last thing she remembered was the fight between Carol and Derek. She had tried to break it up but then Carol beat down on her. She didn't remember anything else after that.
She heard the nurse tell Derek that he could come in.
Derek walked in the room and told her how sorry he was.
"It's not your fault. She didn't have to go all..." Katy stopped. She didn't know what to say, and didn't want to say the wrong thing.
"You're okay. She was pretty pissed that you didn't listen to your social worker."
Katy responded, "She didn't have to hit me though."
"Yeah, well, she's no longer going to be living in the house. They're taking her out of the house to a family home. Whatever that is."
"I'm really sorry that I did all of this. This is all my fault."
"It's not your fault. She was going through so much. Her mother has cancer and she was bottling up so much pain and sadness and anger."
"Well..." Katy said. "I can't quite tell you how sorry I am for breaking apart your family. It is all my fault."
"Katy. I forgive you. Even though there is nothing to forgive."
