Chapter 4 - Tests

I decided to take some tests. When I got to school, I found that kid that Jax brushed by yesterday. I had a class with him, so that seemed like as good a time as ever.

When we walked through the door, I made sure to brush by him. He looked back at me, and did the same thing to me as he did to Jax. I watched him after I brushed by him, an he hissed at me , too!

What is wrong with him? I thought.

He might not be the only person to do that. But, I'd have to get near his group I friends. And then I'd have to brush past them, too. It'll look suspicious. I'll just try that tomorrow. I think I remember something, though...

Like a regular school night, I went home, and did homework. Harder stuff now, since tests are coming up. I hate tests.

I woke up the next morning, yahdah-yahdah. I mean, mornings are only good if you find out you don't have school. That usually means snow. And I live in California. That math means no snow. But, other things can happen, and today was one of those days. We didn't have school. It was a storm, and I don't think it was a regular storm.

I left the house to go to McDonald's. I was hungry. When I got there, I saw Jax sitting in the corner of the restaurant. After I got my food, I walked over.

"Hi!" I said. "Do you mind if I sit down?"

He looked up and smiled at me. "Of course not!"

"Hey, do you remember 2 days ago when you were walking down the hall? Well, you brushed a guy's arm on the way, and he looked back and hissed at you. Did you see him?" I asked.

He frowned at me. "No, I didn't. That's weird."

I nodded. "Yeah, I though so too. So yesterday, I did the same thing, and he hissed at me, too!"

"Well, maybe he just likes his space." he reasoned.

I tilted my head, thinking about it. "Maybe, but I saw him do the same thing to another girl awhile back. And, I saw someone push him into the lockers who was trying to get past, and he didn't do a thing!" I argued.

"There could be a perfectly good explanation for this, but it really doesn't matter to us, does it?" he said, trying to get me to quite babbling on about a guy he didn't know.

"It might! I want to check that girl!" I told him.

He looked confused. "Check her for what?"

"To see if she has the mark, too! That could be what made the guy hiss!" I said.

He shrugged. "I don't know. You can check her, but I have no part in this." He looked around. "But if she does have it, tell me as soon as you can!"

I nodded. "Sure thing."

He smiled. "Thanks. See ya later!"

I waved. "Bye!"

I woke up the next morning. The storm had passed, and we had to go to school today. I looked around for the girl who I remembered from earlier in the year.

I found her standing alone against the building. I walked up to her and said hi.

She stared at me for a couple of seconds. "Hi." she finally said.

I leaned against the wall next to her, and saw a small dragon mark like mine and Jax's.

I pointed to it, asking, "What's that?"

She responded, "It's a birthmark."

I looked straight at her, pulled down my collar, and said, "I have it, too."

She sighed. "That's cool. Can you help me figure out why we have this mark? It probably won't help us that much, but we could learn more about why we have it!"

I nodded. "That seems like a good idea! I have a friend named Jax who has the mark too!"

She grinned excitedly. "That's awesome!"

I laughed. "Yeah, it sure is. Do you have a phone?" she nodded. "Can I have your phone number? I'll give you Jax's too so we can update each other if we find more info!"

She smiled. "Sounds like a plan!"

After we got everything squared away and the day was finished, I went home feeling relieved. This wasn't just some practical joke. It was real, and now, it was the Three Musketeers. We're going to face the world and keep our numbers growing.

We're special. That's all I know. We need a name though. Maybe... the Dragon-borne? That sounds epic. Born to be with dragons. I wonder if we each get our own dragon. Hmm...
