Deep Water

Sailing down the street of my town isn't a very hard thing to do. Some people think it is because of all our winding roads, but that's because no one comes to visit, and there isn't much traffic, you just glide through the liquid. There used to be water flowing through our streets, beautiful blue, and clear water apparently. But it just disappeared and was replaced by this new substance, this happened hundreds of years ago. It feels kind-of dry, and it melts metals very fast, like some acids. But only metals, it doesn't dissolve any other substance that is on the periodic table. Not skin or plastic. Now everyone has wooden boats, and the motors are only made from wood or plastic. Even though the black liquid isn't harmful to humans or animals, we aren't allowed to swim in the stuff, because of the endless depths of what the rivers became. So, I got a boat for myself, a small jetty. There was one time I was messing around, and I fell off my boat.

I was standing on the front of the jetty, my arms stretched out like Rose from that one old film 'The Titanic'. My long white hair blowing behind me, while the little boat motor hummed faintly, this time I forgot my rope, I usually tie a sturdy rope around my waist and tie the other end to the back of my boat to ensure I don't slip, but I was cocky this time and thought "It won't be a big deal anyway. I never come close to falling off".

My boat glided below the traffic lights, a large, fancy speeder flew past in front of me, the big waves of liquid overturned my boat and I fell in. I squeezed my eyes shut and waited for the big splash, I must have had my eyes closed for almost a minute, I decided to open one eye ever so slightly, wondering if I had already fallen in. I looked up, I was right, I was curled up holding my knees like I did some sort of canon ball into the darkness, but I didn't feel the splash. I was just floating, my clothes weren't wet, neither was my hair it just floated like it normally would in water, it felt rather fun. I could swim around and do summer salts, and even better I could breathe, and I didn't need to go back up to the surface. I lost trach of time and looked at my watch which was still working, I had been playing for about 15 minutes although it felt like 5. I decided to do some exploring, because there was very little research or knowledge on the waters, I assumed I was the first person to go in the water and I felt very proud. I hadn't even realised how deep I was in the water. I looked around again and put my hand above my head because I thought I was very close to the surface, but I wasn't, in fact I was very deep down, probably because I was doing somersault's and got really dizzy.

I turned on my phone and used my flashlight to try and see a little better around me. The water wasn't murky and gross, but it was almost black, so hopefully the light from my phone would work. I started swimming towards what I thought was the side of a building nearby, but I just kept swimming. This freaked me out. I couldn't understand, unless I had been turned around too much, there should be a wall right in front of me. I looked back down into the darkness; my fun was over because I started to feel like I was being pulled into the depths of the substance. I'm claustrophobic, and my surroundings started to feel like some closed off room that I couldn't see out of unless I looked up. So, I swam up reaching for the surface. Upon breaking the through surface, I looked around to find my boat. I climbed back in my little old boat, turned on the motor to full speed and sped through the darkening streets, all the way to my small bungalow.
