Mia checked her phone after hearing the notification tone. After reading what it said she sat up from the bed she was laying on quickly.

"Oh. M. Goodness. Babe! Some guy from the second year dorm building saw my Profile on that roommate app the school made!" Mia yelled excitedly to her girlfriend who was in the bathroom trying to perfect her lipstick.

"Oh my god really? Not going to lie I really wasnt sure anyone would want to. I mean you really are awful."  Adira yelled back teasing.

"why you gotta be so mean for? Am I not allowed to get excited about it?" Mia laughed back

"Of course you can be excited, I just dont know why you sound so surprised. If anything you should be surprised it took this long" Adira said rubbing her lips together, finally getting her lipstick how she wanted it.

Mia looked up from her phone to see Adira stepping out of the bathroom. Admiring how absolutly amazing she looked. She was a 5'7" hispanic girl with long dark brown hair with highlights that goes past her lower back when she doesnt have it pulled up in her usual high ponytail. As usual she was rocking her rose red lipstick, perfect eyebrows and eyeliner "sharp enough to cut a bitch" as she would always say. She was wearing black dress pants with gray lining, a red button up shirt and a black cardigan. To pull it all together she was also wearing slick black 4 inch, ancle high stiletto heals.

"can you stop looking so dam good?"  Mia said as she stood to check out her girlfriend.

"why? am I too distracting?" Adira replied, turning in place to show off. Swishing her hair with her head once she finished turning so her ponytail whipped over her sholder.

"Absolutly!" Mia said just before sharing a kiss. Carefully as to not mess up Adira's masterpiece that she worked so hard on.

"So tell me more about this guy that wants to live with my girlfriend." Adira said walking past Mia to her bed to make sure she had all the stuff she needed in her backpack.

"I dont really know much yet. He just asked me to text him back or send him a message when I get the chance. All I know so far is that his name is Jake, and he's a second year too. And I guess we have similar majors so it would make sense for us to room together. I wonder if i have any classes with him."

"You mean you dont know?" Adira laughed looking up from her bag.

"Well I dont go to my calsses to make friends. I go to my classes to be the best."

"Well are you gonna call him?" Adira said excitedly.

"Well yeah, its not like you're gonna let me live with you"  Mia tried her best to look upset but couldn't help the smile forming on the corners of her mouth.

"You know dam well if I wouldn't get in trouble with my landlord that I would love to have you stay here with me. But I cant risk getting evicted from here, then we'd both be screwed."

"yeah and not in the fun way" Mia winked. "Ill call him after my next class".

"You should call him now, babe. No time like the present. He could find someone else by the time you 'get' to class."

"Uggghhhh. fiiinneeee. Ill call him now. you happy 'Mom'. " Mia groaned walking out of Adira's bedroom.

"You'll do great sweetie!" Adira yelled after her in a motherly voice as she bundled up her laptop charger and found a place for it in her bag.
Adira was getting ready to go to her internship with Dr. Bloom. She's a 3rd year psych major and this year she's getting intern/training credits by being Dr. Blooms assistant. It wasnt difficult. For the most part she just scheduled appointments and occasionally help create/organise study groups or give tours to new students. When she wasnt doing any of that Dr. Bloom would encourage her to spend her spare time in the office studying or doing homework. Not that Adira needed to be encouraged, she was more than happy to spend every available second preparing for the next test or quiz. One of the things that brought Mia and Adira together was that they both always strive to be the best in their class.

Mia made her way to Adira's balcony to make the call. Suddenly she found herself feeling nervous. But she wasn't sure why. Its just a phone call. She convinced herself to get out of her own head once she realized she was over thinking it.

'On three' she thought to her self.

Jake stopped walking for a moment, irritated that someone was calling him and interrupting his music. He was on his way to work after his lunch with Gray. He pulled out his phone to find that an unrecognised number was calling him. Just before he pressed decline he remembered the message he had sent to that girl he found on the roommate app. He let it ring once more before answering.

"Hello?"

"Hi!! Is this Jake?" Mia said in the kindest voice she could, wanting to make a good first impression.

"This is him. Can I ask who's calling?"

"Oh sorry, this is Mia from the roommate app. You sent me a message asking me to call you when I got the chance. Is now a bad time?"

"Oh hi! Yeah nows a good time, im just walking to work acutally so I have a few minutes." Jake said as he starting walking again.

"Awesome!"

Neither of them said anything, waiting to see if the other would say something first.

"have you-"
"I dont know wha-"

They said over each other.

"Sorry, you fir-"
"my bad"

They were both silent again other that soft laughter.

Finally it was Mia that spoke.

"You sent me the message, you should speak first"

"Well I dont know what we are supposed to talk about. How do you ask someone you've never met if they want to live with you?"

"I know! Its weird right? Like, I was all nervous before calling and everything."

"Oh my god, me too. Thats why I sent you the text. I had to read over it like 5 times because I didnt know what I was supposed to say.

"wow. we're just a bunch of wussies huh?"

They both laughed again.

"So uh... I saw that you like music?"

"well yeah who doesn't?"

"there was one guy I saw on the app that said something like 'I dont waste my time listening to music'. "

"Oh my god what? I dont know who could live like that"

"Yesss exactly! Not even gonna lie, when you called I gots mildly irritated because it interrupted my music"

"Oh nooo im sorryyy"

"Dont worry about it. If we end up living together ill get you back one way or another"

"Is that a threat?"

"Maybe?"

Again they laughed. Both of them starting to relax now that the ice was broken.

"So you said you're on your way to work? what do you do?"

"Oh. Yeah uh.. I work at Harrison's Furnishings"

"Oh is that that furniture store by the square?"

"yeah exactly"

"I've been wanting to look in there, but I cant really fit any furniture in my.... dorm..."

The air heavy as they both were reminded that most of their stuff had been destroyed in the fire.

"Well uh....do you know if those apartments we're supposed to move to are furnished? I can probably get us a discount if we need it." Jake said half joking trying to lighten the mood again.

"Im pretty sure they're supposed to be furnished, but ill keep that in mind." Mia lightly laughed along.

"What about you? Do you work?"

"Um-Yeah. Im a server part time at The Spot. That coffee shop, diner place. you know it?"

"Yeah I think so. They do Karyoke on the weekends right? Im pretty sure some friends keep tryingt o get me to join them."

"yeah thats right. We also have poetry slams and open mic nights and stuff throguhout the week."

"cool"

"Now that I think about it, my shift ends early today if you want to meet up there? Maybe we can decide to make this thing official then?"

"My shift doesnt end until like 7:30ish, assuming the boss lets me leave on time. Is that too late?"

"No actually thats Perfect, It'll give me time to change out of my work clothes and my girlfriend should be there by then, she'll want to meet you too. No pressure." Mia laughed again.

"Hey if you get to bring backup then so do I!"

"No arguments here."

"So about 8ish?"

"Yeah I'll see you then!"
