"Hey, what do you guys say we meet up for some food later?" Kennedy suggested as the group all walked out of school together. "Yeah, when?" Jesse asked her. "6ish?" She replied and everyone agreed.

Perfect. Right during Amelia's shift.

"Uh, I can't tonight." Amelia told them and Liliana frowned, slinging her arm around her best friend. "You okay? Sick of us already?"

"I've a family dinner." She lied and Jay frowned, bowing that wasn't true because Archer had mentioned a party to him earlier. "Jay, you in?" Davina asked and Jay nodded with a frown. "Yeah- but uh, I can only stay for a while. Archer and I are going to a party tonight." Jay answered and Amelia swallowed thickly.

It was pretty embarrassing having a job at 16 when all your friends came from wealthy families.

"I thought you'd a family dinner?" Rowan pointed out, looking to Amelia. "Yeah it's umm. It's a girls night." She built onto the lie and everyone nodded skeptically.

"Come with us next time? You've been ditching us a lot lately." Aaron asked and she smiled. "You know it."

"Okay, one loaded bacon fries, a Diet Coke and buffalo wings. Can I get you guys anything else?"  Amelia asked as she set the food down on the table.

"No, we're all good. Thank you." The couple smiled and Amelia nodded before walking away. "Rhodes!" The host called and Amelia turned on her heels, walking toward him. "Yeah Marcus?" She hummed, setting her notepad into her apron.

"Just sat a party of 7 at table 13. Take them? Eric's going on break." Marcus asked her and she sighed, nodding. "Yeah sure, I got it." She told him and she grabbed a stack of menus as Marcus walked away.

With a smile on her face, Amelia turned around but when she saw the seven people she was supposed to serve, her face dropped.

Shit.

"Uh- Marcus?" Amelia called, following him. "What's up?" He asked, stacking menus. "I can't serve that table." She protested and he raised an eyebrow. "Well, we're short staffed and there's no body else so get stepping." He dismissed her and she sighed.

Amelia tied her hair back and gave herself a shake, taking a deep breath.

"Welcome to Martello's diner. I'll be your waitress for today, here are some menus. Can I get some drinks started for you guys?" Amelia walked over to the table and handed out the menus, taking out her notepad.
