I yawned and looked at the ceiling of my room. I could hear voices outside as the daylight shined through the thin curtains on my window. I slowly rose up from the bed and looked around the room. My dress was tossed to the side and my pair of shoes were on each side of the room. I must've been so tired that I forgot to put everything away before laying down.
I threw the covers off of me and stood up. Maybe it was a little too fast because I felt dizzy and had to sit down for a moment before standing again. I picked up my shoes and dress, putting them where they belonged. I went to my open suitcase and pulled out another dress I hadn't wore in a while. I put it on and went to the mirror to fix my face and hair. I smiled at myself in the mirror and nodded before turning around and grabbing a new pair of shoes and placing them on my feet. I smoothed out my dress and took a deep breath before walking out of the room.
From upstairs, I could hear laughter and people talking. I walked down the stairs and peaked inside the kitchen where my kids and father sat. Ellie was fixing breakfast while Alex and his girlfriend helped around. "I didn't mean to sleep that long. I'm deeply sorry." I said as I entered the kitchen. I gave Alex's girlfriend, Bren, a small nod and went to an open seat at the table.
"No need to be sorry, mother. You seemed awfully tired before you went to bed, so we wanted you to sleep longer than usual." Lincoln spoke.
I smiled and messed his hair up a bit. "Well thank you my sweet boy." I looked at Ashton and Anne. "And what may you two be doing on this fine morning?"
Anne turned to me and gave me a face before smiling. "Aunt Bren is teaching me how to cook biscuits!"
"I'm helping too!" Ashton said out loud.
I smiled. "I bet they'll be the best ever. Especially with Ellie helping too."
She turned to me and smiled before continuing her cooking. My attention soon shifted to father who was reading. "Father, what is on your mind?"
He looked up from the book. "What do you mean?"
"Well, you never read unless you're trying to hide something. It always gave you away."
He sighed and took off his glasses and put the book on the table. He opened his mouth to say something when there was a knock on the door. He smiled and looked at me. "I think you should get that."
I gave him a confused look before standing up from my seat and walking to the door. I opened it and was surprised with my favorite girls and one boy that stood out like a light in the darkness. "Oh wow. What are you guys doing here?"
"Well, we wanted to come here to see you of course!" Marmee said.
"We're here to try and convince you to stay for a little while longer!" Amy blurted out.
"Is that so? I wonder who's idea that was!" I said loudly and heard giggles from the kitchen. I moved away from the door entrance to allow them in. Once Laurie was in, I closed the door and began walking back to the kitchen with Laurie by my side. His presence making me nervous in an instant.
