chapter six

his pov:

She doesn't talk, nor does she move. It's as if somebody pressed pause. It's either a nightmare or something really bad happened there.

"Wanna sit down and tell me whenever you feel ready? " I ask as I motion her to sit on my bed.
She does as I said and I sit next to her, leaving some space between us. Mental and physical.

As we're sitting in complete silence, both staring at absolutely nothing, I hear her voice.
"I lied. " wait what?
"What? "
"I lied to you, Keith. I don't enjoy abandoning everyone in my hometown! I didn't leave to have fun exploring the world, I left because I had to. I had to save myself. " she says, a new tear falling from her eye.

Now it's my turn to freeze.

her pov:

"I had to save myself! " I finally say, admitting the truth to him.

As much as it hurts, I feel a lot better now that I got this off my chest. I've been bottling this whole situation up since I don't even know when.
I'm glad Keith is here.

But this time he remains silent.
I'm not sure whether I scared him, made him mad or it was just too sudden to him.

"I saw my mom. " I decide to break the silence, knowing that either way I can't take all this back. Besides, he needs an explanation for being woken up this early.

"She was hovering right above my face, crying, ready to hit me once again. " I continue, still no reaction.

"Basically what woke me up was something that felt like water drops falling onto my face. It was all so real when I woke up, until her hand was about to land on my face. That's when she disappeared."

"I'm sorry. " is all he says.

"For what? "

"Acting so selfishly and invalidating everything you said. "

"You didn't know. "

"That doesn't make up for it. "

"Anyways, I should have listened to you. There's really something wrong with this place. " I state, worry all over my face.

"I know, I know. We have to stay safe for now. "

BANG!

Yeah, another one.

"Shit! " he says.

That was the door, however this time there's no wind. We have to leave.

his pov:

There's so much going on in my head right now. Especially that sentence of hers. "I don't enjoy abandoning everyone in my hometown. "
Guilt is filling my mind and my heart.

I sigh and open my phone.

dad: 5 missed calls.
"We're worried kid, answer your call. "

anne: "Mom is going crazy you asshole! "

Maybe I should answer. I would have already done it if I wasn't a fucking coward.

"Let's take a walk around the village to clear our heads. It's not like we're safer in here anyway. " Aura suggests.

"Yeah, let's do it. "

We both get up cautiously, taking a look around the room before heading towards the door. Ghost-fucking-busters!

She's once again the first to make a move and push the door open.
Again, nobody is there.

When we're about to go down the stairs, she can probably sense my hesitation, as she grabs my hand and starts running confidently towards the reception.

"Slow down! " I complain as I feel like my hand will come off any second now.

"If we get ourselves killed, let's at least make it fun! " damn she's crazy.

It's all fun and games until we realise that the inn is empty again. What the hell.

"Where did that lovely lady go now huh? " I ask, knowing I've been right all along.

"Shut up! " oh admit it.

her pov:

As much as I'd like to make him sound wrong, I can't. The whole situation this morning, but also yesterday's events make me think that maybe Keith is right.
Maybe this place has been empty for a while now. 

Don't get me wrong, this whole scooby doo thing is very interesting, however I'd prefer not to die during the following week. Or the one after that. Or... You know what follows!

We're now walking on the streets of the village. I'm carefully looking at everything around me, trying to spot any recent signs of life.
Keith however doesn't look okay.

"Hey what's up? " I ask, worried.

"Nothing. " he abruptly says.

I'll wait for him, like he did for me. However, it hurts to see him like that.
Maybe all he was until yesterday is a complete stranger, but now it's different.
I can feel that idiot growing on me.
