With an assassin as your girlfriend, it felt bizarre how many normal or mundane things she longed to experience after having them unavailable to her life thus far. You didn't realise how much you took for granted as small joys of life that being raised as a human weapon weren't offered. It brought you great joy to watch Yelena experience these things, especially at Christmas which she had not celebrated since she was a young child but had always desired to be part of.
Your annual celebrations that seemed plain like putting up your tree were once more filled with magic, showing the childlike naivety within the killer. She'd circled every Christmas film in the newspaper to remind you that the two of you needed to watch them; hung up more decorations than the average Santa's grotto had and bought every item of food that she could feasibly justify as festive. It wasn't how you'd normally plan for Christmas, but you certainly weren't complaining, especially with the joy it all brought to Yelena.
Every room in your apartment came with daily surprises, a new decoration or at least something you hadn't noticed before or blaring Christmas songs that you had long became sick of after the yearly repetition.
You were attempting to find somewhere to sit on the sofa amongst the red and green cushions when Yelena called you from the kitchen asking you to go to her. Before you could enter the kitchen, Yelena had appeared in the doorway a devious grin upon her face.
"What are you up to?" You questioned, knowing well that the mischievous glint in her eye would often be your undoing.
"Look up," she gleamed.
You dreaded the thought. You had no idea what would be above your head but when you looked up it was a relief. It wasn't anything bad, the opposite even, a sprig of mistletoe hung above your head in the doorframe.
"Mistletoe?" You asked.
"It seemed like a Christmas staple, and I will take any excuse to get a kiss from you," she smiled, taking a step closer to you.
"You know that you could just ask for a kiss? You don't have to put up mistletoe for that," you explained.
Yelena shrugged her shoulders at you, moving a hand to cup your cheek.
"I know, but I can now steal a kiss just for you walking in or out of our kitchen."
She leaned in pressing her lips to you, glad to have ticked another Christmas tradition from her list.
