Ophelia believed if she didn't talk to anyone and stayed silent she wouldn't get attached to someone and then wouldn't end up getting hurt when they left her.

Ophelia was laying on her bed listening to music. She normally would sing her heart out but things had to change and Hartley noticed that.
The girl noticed that her door was being opened and she began to sit up. "Hey!" Hartley jumped on the girl's bed. "Grandma and I are going to visit the new neighbors to collect their rent. Want to come?"
Part of her didn't want to get out of bed but she was so bored. "Sure, I have nothing else to do."
"Great! I'll see you downstairs." She quickly left before her cousin can change her mind.
She wanted Ophelia to come since she only had one real friend and she saw there was a kid her age.
Luckily Ophelia's AirPods were charged so she grabbed them. She decided to put on one and let her hair down to cover it. Ophelia needs music to basically keep her alive. So no matter where she was she was always listening to music mostly when she was emotional.
________
Once they made it to the house. Hartley rang the doorbell. They didn't answer but the three girls heard someone inside so Ophelia decided to keep ringing the doorbell.
The door swung open, the whole family just stood there weirdly. "Oh look, everybody. It's our landlady Celia and her granddaughters Hartley and Ophelia." Hartley decided to wave at them.
"Hello, landlady Celia and her granddaughters Hartley and Ophelia." They all said. 'They are definitely in a cult.' Ophelia thought.
"Your first month's rent is ten bucks short." Celia quickly said.
Ophelia was wishing she brought her jacket. "Oh, sorry about that. Can you break a twenty?"
Ophelia already knew what she was going to say. "Nope." Ophelia was wondering why she agree to come.
Hartley began to speak. "You look really familiar. Do I know you from somewhere?" Hartley pointed at the teenage girl and began to walk into the house.
Ophelia looked at her cousin. 'Do we just walk into people's houses?' The young teen looked at her grandmother to see if they should just walk in.
The teen girl started to chuckle nervously. "No, I don't think so." It became quiet for a little.
"Well, we were just about to start family movie night." Mrs. Madden began to walk up to the door. It was obvious that they didn't want them here.
"Great. What are we watching? I love a great war movie." Celia decided to invite herself in. Ophelia noticed that her cousin and grandma were walking towards the couch.
Ophelia felt eyes on her. She turned her head to see the whole family looking at her. She quickly smiled and joined her family on the couch.
"Uh, on second thought, we really should get some rest. We're still adjusting to the time difference here in Texas." They all began to fake yawn.
All the girl can think about is how weird they are. "Remind me where you're from again." At this point, the family started to become suspicious and they did start to look familiar. Well except the younger boy.
Ophelia got lost in her thoughts until she noticed Hartley stand up. "You are gonna love Texas. I mean my cousin did when she moved here. Everyone's super friendly."
Lie. Ophelia didn't like Texas when she got here. It wasn't home for her but she was stuck so she had no choice. She got used to the people.
Mr. Madden sarcastically laughed at what Hartley said. "I can tell."
Hartley decided to ask another question. "What brought you here anyway?"
"Oh you know, we just needed a change." The girl said looking at her family.
__________
Ophelia sat at her table looking at the clock. She didn't like this class at all. She hated math so much. She was stuck at a table of four but it was only her and Louis.
The bell finally rang, the girl noticed it rang early but was glad she was able to leave.
As Ophelia began to walk out of class she felt someone's arm go around her shoulders. "So are we hanging at mine house or yours."
"Mine." She whispered. "I don't feel like walking miles." They could've gone on the bus but Ophelia hated the bus ever since that accident. "It feels like my legs are going to break if I walk that much."
Louis playfully rolled his eyes. "Don't be so dramatic. You act like my house is across the world."
The black-haired girl noticed her cousin was coming up to them. "Hey, Ophelia! Grandma wants you to clean your room and it has to be done when we get home after my appointment."
"But-" the girl tried to say something before she got interrupted "And no excuse this time."
Before Hartley can walk away someone bumps into her. "Hi... hi, Hartley, Ophelia." Louis looked at his friend to see how she knew them. 'My new neighbor.' Ophelia mouthed.
"Um... I was wondering if maybe you guys would want to-" The girl began to seem to gag which makes the two kids want to laugh but they both quickly cover each other's mouths.
When she recovers from her gagging she looks at them again. "What I mean is, maybe we could." She began to start gaging again.
"Get you a bucket?" Hartley suggested.
The three hear a guy start to speak. "She wants to hang out after school." Ophelia began to put her earphone on.
"Oh, you mean like be friends?" Hartley asked
"Oh yeah, Hartley. She really wants us to be her friend and hang out. That's why she almost puked." Ophelia began to fake gag but quickly stopped when her cousin pushed her. Amy agreed though.
