───CHAPTER 26───

Her lips were sealed tight, her eyes worn and tired as she stared at the sun dipping into the horizon. The cotton sheets were up to her chin, the soft smell of laundry detergent easing her nerves. Her thoughts were lulled by wind and silence, her wounds weighing her further into the bed.

It's been a few hours since school finished, but Recovery Girl suggested that she sleep here for the night. Rai didn't mind as long as she was next to the window.

The lower the sun fell, her hope started to wither. Rai felt silly thinking that some of her classmates would come to visit her; She couldn't stop herself from glancing at the door now and then. She would hear voices and small whispers trying to hide in the halls. But that's all they were.

"Rai." Her eyes were closed, warm hues painting the ceiling above her. At first, she thought she was dreaming until she felt her bed dip. "Are you awake?"

Her body tensed to the person beside her, Rai covering her face with the sheets. "Don't look at me, Kirishima," she mumbled.

Hearing her voice caught him off guard, even more, that it was so strained. Nobody in class was aware of what happened after they were pushed out, Shinso having joined them later that day and said he didn't remember much. Either way, that didn't stop Mina or Kaminari from scolding him, calling him out for being a jerk. However, even if it was wrong, Shinso didn't act randomly, and that's why the dorm room tonight was quieter than most.

A hum passed his lips, and Kirishima dropped a bag on the table. "We made an extra plate for you in case you were hungry. Todoroki made it."

His eyes trailed Rai's hair, tuffs of it poking out from the sheets. He couldn't help but frown while looking at her, feeling sorry for what she went through.

He took a deep breath, Rai listening to him intently.

"Did Shinso do this to you?"

"Not exactly," Rai mumbled, something twisting in Kirishima's gut. "But this isn't his fault."

His gaze fell on his lap, his brows knitting together. "What he did was wrong."

The light around them dimmed, the night settling inside as Rai watched the stars start to appear among the vast indigo above. Rai observed as her fingers poked the cotton sheets, small bulbs of light peeking through. She wanted to draw constellations of her own, but her fire was still so weak.

Her thoughts were disrupted when Kirishima let out a heavy grunt, Rai pursing her lips. She nudged his side with her foot, and Kirishima jumped.

"Wha—"

"Don't be angry at him," Rai told him, Kirishima peering over at her with a confused expression. "It's a waste of energy."

"But—"
