“ There are cockroaches underneath," she said as she climbed onto the table holding the broom. I swear my mum almost made me laugh out loud seeing her scared half to death. I tried to look down, and there were three cockroaches roaming on the floor.
"Where's the cockroach? Nothing, mum," I deliberately teased my mum pretending I didn't see any cockroaches.
"Are you blind?! It's on the floor!" asked my mum, clearly not satisfied with my words.
"What's all the racket about?" asked dad, who appeared out of nowhere and looked at both of us.
"Mum said there were cockroaches on the floor, but I didn't see any," I explained, squinting at dad. He seemed to understand what I meant and replied...
"Never mind, you'd better get off the table, it's embarrassing if Freddie saw you like this," said dad to mum.
"But there's a cockroach on the floor, I'm quite amused," said mum, who looked like she had goosebumps seeing cockroaches.
"Nothing, honey, the cockroach has run away," said dad while holding out his hand to mum.
"Has the cockroach really scarpered?" asked mum, who was really afraid of cockroaches.
"Yes mum, just take a look at the floor if you don't believe me!" I grumbled. Mum looked down and I could see a hint of relief on her face as she saw that the cockroach was no longer there. She then took dad's hand and got off the table.
"Thank goodness the cockroach has gone, Giselle, could you bring the drinks please?" my mum said.
"Alright mum," I answered, then I took the drink that mum had made earlier while mum and dad had already gone to the living room.
"Sorry, there was a little mess in the kitchen," dad said to Freddie as I poured the tea mum made into the cup.
"It's okay, but Mrs. Marciano is okay, right?" Freddie answered while asking about my mum's condition.
"I'm okay son, I'm just surprised because there's a cockroach passing there," Mum answered Freddie's question.
"Would you like a drink?" I invited Freddie, while dad and mum had tea. I noticed Freddie looking at me meaningfully, but I pretended not to notice the look he was giving me.
"Son, please have some tea while it's still hot," dad said to Freddie. Freddie picked up a cup of tea from the table in front of him and took a sip.
"The tea is really lovely, thank you," Freddie said, although I could see he was a bit shy to face mum and dad.
"You're welcome, son," mum answered.
"Oh, by the way, Giselle mentioned she has other siblings, where are they?" Freddie suddenly asked about my siblings.
"They weren't here because they were on holiday in Ireland," Dad answered Freddie's question.
"Oh I see. Hmm Mr and Mrs. Marciano, I think I have to go home because it's really late. Surely you three are sleepy, right?" Freddie said again.
"Yes, we are sleepy," I answered.
"Giselle, be quiet!" my mum said. "Actually, we're not sleepy, son. Please don't listen to what Giselle says, she likes to digress, huh?"
"No, Mrs. Marciano, I'm not offended," Freddie said. Then he continued, "I really should go home now. Surely my parents are waiting for me at home."
"Oh, I see? Right son, come round sometime, bring your parents as well," dad said to Freddie as we stood up to walk Freddie outside.
"Of course, I'll come back with my parents to discuss the proposal seriously," Freddie said again, glancing at me occasionally.
"Take care on the road," dad said once more.
"Okay Mr. Marciano, good night," Freddie replied.
"Goodnight," Mum and Dad said to Freddie while I just stood there, not knowing what to say. Freddie was now walking towards his car.
"He looks like a good lad, doesn't he?" My mum said while looking at Freddie, who was already in the car and getting ready to leave.
"I feel the same way," Dad responded to Mum's words. I quickly went into the house because I had a feeling they would soon try to pressure me into accepting Freddie's proposal. But before the pressure could really start, I decided to go to my room and sleep.
"If only Giselle would accept his proposal, that would be wonderful," Mum said to Dad with a hopeful look in her eyes, as if she really wanted me to marry Freddie soon.
"I also think Giselle should marry that guy... So, Giselle, do you agree?" Dad asked, looking around but noticing that Giselle was no longer there. "Oh, has she already come inside?" Dad asked again this time.
