manng was all standing around in a circle as max was explaining what had happened to marcus. "he took a corner too fast, slide off the road." max explained. "so now he has a concussion."

"oh my god that is just so scary." abby said.

norah nodded agreeing, "i had a concussion once when i went skiing, it was the worst. did he black out or throw up?"

"do the hokey pokey? turn himself around? yeah he got the whole fun concussion grab bag." max huffed.

"but he's gonna be okay, right?" ginny asked. abby looked at nicola and noticed how upset she looked by this whole thing. nicola looked as if she was going to throw up.

maxine shrugged, "he should be back to normal but it could take a few months, so. its just so stupid. why would he ride his bike? he doesn't have his license or know how to ride. he could've been killed. what would possess him to do that?"

when max said that nicola felt horrible. she felt like this was all her fault. if she didn't push him away. she should have just let him in. tell him how she has been feeling but she didn't want to burden him with that though she knows he would understand. she knows he has been through depression like that and she was there for him when it happened so why wouldn't she let him be there for her?

max scoffed, "i blame toxic masculinity."

"why?" abby quickly asks.

"i.. i dont know." max stammered. as sophie ran up to max, the rest of the girls sit down, nicola placed her head on abbys lap.

"how are you doing?" she asked quietly. nicola just shrugged. abby knew her best friend was going through a lot with her depression and now with marcus. "im here if you wanna talk."

"thanks abs." nicola smiled slightly.

during all the mess that had happened this year nicola had decided to get a job at the blue farm so here she was closing with joe. "so i need all of those tables reset with cutlery before you take off, please." joe told nicola who just absentmindedly nodded. "oh look sing sing." joe sarcastically said. "a musical with all white people behind bars! a work of fiction. yeah. also have you seen my pens? i don't know where my pens are. i feel like i just restocked them. its like just this very mundane episode of the twilight zone."

that made nicola look up, "did you just reference the twilight zone?"

joe laughed, "yes but come on what's going on with you?"

nicola took a deep breath, "nothing."

she walked with the empty tray towards joe. "nothing. okay." he said clearly not believing her. "would you like to talk about nothing?"

nicola sighed looking at joe, "what do you do when you possibly messed something up?"

"ah is this a skateboarding, t shirt wearing, secret boyfriend possible mess up?" joe clicks his tongue.
