Nanaya grimaced and spat in Lord's face. The adult pulled away immediately, surprised. He smiled as he wiped his cheek.
"Ah! Resentful," he scoffed.
"You got Kot-chan like this," Nanaya snarled, wincing in pain, "and you want to sell my friends! You think I'll follow you?!"
Lord raised an eyebrow. He didn't care about the harm he had suffered himself? His "friends" matter that much? He couldn't help but laugh.
"Oh your dear friends are so precious to you?" He laughed disdainfully. "Did it ever occur to you that if none of them bonded with you, you would have become Experion? How far would they be willing to put an end to the reign of the greatest evil genius, in your opinion? Let's start with your stuffed animal. He has no choice, does he? The guardian must get along well with his... magical sound."
He dropped the bracelet on the floor and stepped on it to tear it apart, before ducking again, grabbing Nanaya's face.
"But would he really want to have you as his master?" He continued sarcastically, "at what point did you wonder if he was actually okay with this situation? You know, it's easy to lie and wear a mask. Even more so with such an important goal."
"No..." Nanaya breathed hesitantly, "it's not true..."
"I thought you were as smart as your father. Be serious. "Friends" don't exist. And those who claim to be so end up abandoning you."
Nanaya gave a slight start. His father had said that exact same phrase to him before. When he was still Experion. Just a few months ago, when they discussed it again, Nakamara admitted he was wrong. That Experion was blocking him from seeing what was really important and that he was just angry because of Teiji. But it was wrong. There were people who pretended to be good friends just to take advantage of the kindness or wealth of their comrades, but true friends also existed. Nakamara had even said that he envied his son for having so many. That they all seemed honest and close to him.
Lord thought he struck a chord. Seeing Nanaya's head bowed, seeming lost in thought, he was certain of the doubt that had just slipped into his mind. He only had one demonstration left.
He called Static and waved at him, while retrieving one of his katanas. The man with the sewn mouth moved to the nearest prisoner -Tomeo- and began to untie him. He didn't remove the suppressor but thrust a knife into his hand.
"Be careful what you're going to do," barked Lord, placing his weapon at Nanaya's throat, "approach without attempting anything."
Tomeo clenched his fist on the handle of the knife, hesitating. He feared that Lord would ask him to kill Nanaya. Or maybe one of the others? He got up and walked until Lord ordered him to stop, a short distance from him and the magical boy.
"Now," he ordered with a smile, "slice your throat. Or I slice his."
Tomeo felt a shiver run up his spine as he watched the katana blade rest against Nanaya's throat. The other five boys wanted to struggle and yell at him but were held in place by a few more blows.
The amateur hero looked at the weapon in his hand. It wasn't even hesitation. But who would not be afraid in this situation? Future hero or not, Starlight had been clear during their training. They were still human.
Lord sneered and looked back at the magical.
"See," he said, "your life isn't worth much to them."
"Hey! Don't decide for me!"
The adult turned away again to look at Tomeo, surprised. The young man simply raised the knife to his own throat, just above the suppressor.
"Ogami-san!" Nanaya exclaimed. "No don't do that !!"
"But, babe," Tomeo whispered with a smile, "if I don't, you'll die."
Lord grimaced. It was not at all what he had expected. But when Tomeo was just going to obey, Nanaya freed himself and threw himself on him to stop him.
Lord looked at the blade of his katana, frozen then broken, and the icy pieces of rope that lay on the ground. He had however destroyed his bracelet and therefore his scepter.
Tomeo didn't realize right away. The chill escaping from his suppressor collar sent shivers down his spine. Nanaya had a hand on it, power activated, he just had to break it. His other hand was bleeding, gripping the knife blade tightly to keep it from touching Tomeo's throat. The future hero realized what had just happened and started to panic. If Nanaya used his power without having his scepter, he could die!
"babe," he exclaimed, "what are you doing?!"
Nanaya did not answer. He got up and faced Lord, furious. The adult stood dumbfounded for a moment. Surprised and upset. Magicals weren't supposed to be able to use their powers without the presence of the scepter.
"Oh, how boring," he breathed between his teeth, "I hate the unexpected. Oh well too bad. Kill Em."
His men, however, did not have time to make a single move. Just by tapping his foot on the ground, Nanaya covered it with ice in a second. At the same time, large spikes emerged to separate his friends from those holding them and the suppressors froze.
Static intervened when a spade nearly hit Lord. The sewn-mouthed man found himself pinned to the wall after pushing his boss. Lord was on the ground. His henchmen were all swept away, blocked or immobilized. As soon as he was freed from the suppressor, Kenji had also taken care of a few and Monaka had erected a barrier in front of him and the twins, in order to stop a few bullets. Hyokko's cage also froze and the creature had no trouble breaking its bars. He flew quickly towards Nanaya.
"Nana-chan, stop it!" He begged, "you're going to kill yourself!"
"No," the teenager muttered, putting himself between Lord and his friends, "you don't have to worry about me Hyokko. Ogami-san, take Kot-chan! We have to get him out of here."
"Oh no, you're not going anywhere!" growled Lord.
He drew a pistol but missed his shot when a spike shot out of the ground to plant itself in his hand, deflecting the bullet and forcing him to drop the weapon.
Lord winced in pain pulling his hand away.
"Static!" »
The man, however seriously injured, broke the ice that passed through his stomach. He faltered for a second but straightened up. Lightning began to travel through his entire body.
The room suddenly split in two when a wall of ice rose from the floor to the ceiling. Static's legs were also covered in it, despite his efforts to break it. Only, Nanaya was there, with Lord and his faithful bodyguard, while his friends were on the other side.
"Kitty !" Yelled Kenji's muffled voice, "what are you doing?!"
"I'm saving time," replied the magical, "take Kot-chan away. I'm joining you."
