"Kookie we should probably talk, don't you think." Oh no, more real adult talk. I hope I can survive it.
"Sure, why don't you start." I feel anxious, as I don't know what he'll say. Most of all I don't want to stop. Well, we really haven't started.
"What a whirlwind this is. I want to continue this adult dating. We're both not ready for more, but I'm having fun. You're intelligent, funny, have a dog , love jazz and great in bed. That's pretty much the fucking jackpot for me." I smile as we seem to be on the same page. "I just think that if that changes for anyone of us, we have to tell the other right away. Honesty is key. Also, we only date each other. What do you think Kookie?" I'm in awe and have little to add.
"Tae, I agree. I think, if anything, I hope we can still be friends. I think that's already happening." I chuckle as does he. "I agree to have with you, Kim Taehyung, an Affair to Remember." We both agree and laugh. The thoughts of having all the great benefits of a boyfriend without all the fears and drama is great. Or, at least, so I tell myself. No fear of being dumped or accepting crumbs. When it's done, it's done. I can do this, or so I believe.
"So how shall we play it with your family? Tell me more about your brother. You haven't said a lot about him." I roll my eyes and Tae doesn't see it because he's driving but it's definitely in my tone.
"Hwan's an idiot. He's under the belief that my parents love me more and for some reason there's always been this competition. Well not really. He barely finished school and got into some trouble when he was a teen. He has a problem keeping a job." I hiss.
"Kookie, is there any truth to what he says? Like your parents showing you more attention."
"No not really. I was the one that went to college and purchased my own home at a young age. He's had lots of opportunities. I even paid for his college. He registered for a full semester of classes and was pretending to go to class. I later learned he dropped out and got a cash refund for the classes. He gambled the money away and spent the rest smoking Marijuana."
"Kookie, you do know that gambling is a serious addiction for millions of people as well as drugs?"
"Yes, Tae I know that. Hwan is always running some type of scam. Always asking to borrow money. He's quite charismatic so be mindful of your wallet."
"What? He steals?"
"No, Tae. At least I don't think so. He's pretty slick. He tries to sell you shit you don't need or tries to get you to invest in a deal that never materializes."
"Sounds like you've had some experience with him."
"Sure have. Lots of deals and loaning him money to help him out. And you know what my return was? Not shit!" I bite my lip in frustration.
"Kookie, did you consider that giving him money was the last thing he needed? It's called enabling." A cold shock runs through my veins.
"Enabling. You think I don't know that?! I get it and I don't need to be told or have my head examined. You and others can't advise me on having a fucked up family member unless you've been there and another thing..." I screech to a halt as Tae explodes with laughter. I cross my arms tightly across my chest as my heart pounds in my throat and I burn with frustration. Tae laughs for the better part of a minute and uses the heel of his hand to wipe his eyes. Not only my cheeks but the back of my neck flames with heat. I now expect him to pull the vehicle over quietly, hand me Bam's leash and burn rubber making his escape from my crazy ass. He then starts to talk.
"Kookie, my goodness you're spicy and sassy as hell." I'm not really, but for some reason with Tae I don't have to hold back. I can be me. My ex-loser never liked sassy Kookie.
