Mr Boynton

The apartment in New York looks very lonely without you.

Only the apartment in new york?

Well, I didn't want to be overly dramatic but at the risk of sounding ridiculous, my life looks very lonely without you.

I smiled at the screen because that was precisely what I wanted to hear...more like reading from Rami

I miss you too, stranger

Have a good night

Can't wait to see you soon x

And my kiss?

I sent you an "x"

that's not a kiss

Do you want an emoji?

that's not a kiss either

I rolled my eyes opening the camera on my phone and taking a selfie in a gesture that I would never do with anyone but Rami, sending him a kiss... in my pajamas and without a drop of makeup. Putting my phone on the nightstand I pulled the covers up to my chin.

- Lucy... are you awake? -my mother's voice forced me to get up while her silhouette crossed the door of my room, suddenly I had a flashback of my childhood in that house

- Yes mum-Here- she handed me a fruit tea, my favorite while she took a seat next to me on the mattress without any invitation... although she didn't need it

- Thank you mommy - I took a sip feeling that warm sensation in my chest, that sensation that only the presence of your mother can give you

- I was hoping we could talk.

- Okay....

- How are the things going?

- Not bad - I looked at her curiously, what was this about?

- Are you sure? - I nodded my head finishing my tea - And things with Rami?

- As usual, fine - I shrugged

- are you sure? It's just that you guys have been through a lot in the last year... an engagement, a wedding that wasn't, a loss

I smiled wistfully

- Some things just... happen, for no reason. Although those things hurt - I admitted, acknowledging that my grief was finally reaching a different stage of acceptance.

-Oh my little girl- mom wrapped me in her arms- It's normal, as it's also normal that everything you've gone through ponds your relationship a bit

-Wait- I separated from her hug - Oh no, has Emma told you something? - I inferred - I swear to God I'm going to kill her! - Fury took over me finally understanding what my mother's attitude was coming from, EMMA HAD TOLD HER WHAT I HAD TRUSTED HER BEFORE DINNER!

- Hey, don't be mad at your sister. She was just worried.... And we are all wondering why you didn't want to make it legal or at least give us an official wedding date

- Are you serious mom? - my defense mode activated - I expect that comment from anyone except Emma and you! Do you really care that much about that 1950's shit from me?

My mother looked at me between a mixture of pride... and annoyance for raising my voice but there was really pride behind her look.

- I'm sorry, Luce... I just want to make sure you're happy... as well as your sister.

I snorted, Emma and I would definitely have a chat.

- Not all relationships are one night or a marriage - I finally verbalized what I had been thinking for a few days

Mom tried to hide a smile

-You're right, my little girl is smart beyond her years

- Rami and I... we are just Rami and me... and it works, it really works - I smiled thinking of my man... not my boyfriend, not my fiancé, not my fake husband... just Rami.

-Understood, honey- mom kissed my forehead wishing me a good night, she picked up my cup of tea and closed my door giving me a wink

I swear I'll kill you - I muttered writing a couple of insults to Emma

My gaze diverted to the package of papers that now rested on my worn-out desk, I bit my lips standing up and taking the envelope from the pile of papers

I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say.... Rami and I were beyond the concept of marriage, of a big wedding and pompous party, of a couple of signed papers. Rami and I were the vows we had made in front of our friends almost a year ago... Rami and I were something else, we were perfect together. We didn't need more.

- Shit - my whole body trembled when out of nowhere my phone began to vibrate dropping the papers - I swear if you call me to talk about marriage I'm going to kill you right now

- Woah, hello to you too Lucy - the male voice of my favorite blonde came from the other end of the line

- What do you want? - I laughed, my mood instantly improving. Something only my girls could do: Joe, Gwil, Ben and Rami

- I need a giant favor, you can kill me later

- What happens?

- Just don't be mad, okay?

- You scare me, Benny

- I'm scared too! You're definitely going to kill me!
